The €2,000 buy-in PartyPoker.com Irish Poker Championship was won last night by local Galway player Jude Ainsworth in a thrilling battle with Michael McCool from Nottingham, England.
Ainsworth, who has just finished a PhD in Bio Chemistry, picked up €180,000 after calling McCool’s all-in with 10

gave Aisnworth a straight and the first major poker title of 2008.
The event, being held at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Galway, Ireland had 298 runners and generated a prize pool of €542,500.

Brady was first out in the event and was followed in quick succession by McCabe, McFadden, and Moran. Dineen came fourth, and Tommy Watson was thrid.
The event is being filmed for broadcast on RTÉ television in February and will be distributed internationally by partypoker.com.
