Seth Davies came into the 2025 Triton Poker Montenegro $50,000 buy-in eight-max no-limit hold’em event with 36 cashes, 16 final tables, and more than $8.5 million in prior earnings on the prestigious high-stakes tour. The one Triton accomplishment that had eluded the 36 year-old American poker pro was closing out a title.

But finally, more than six years removed from his first cash at the 2019 Triton Jeju stop, Davies finally broke through to hoist his first trident trophy. He bested the field of 143 entries in the aforementioned $50k tournament, earning $1,490,741 and the hardware.

“Most of my biggest success has been on other tours, so it’s really nice to finally have a win at Triton, especially when it means so much to me,” Davies told Triton reporters. “Poker is a hard game, especially tournament poker. When a couple of things don’t go your way, it just feels like the whole world is falling down on top of you. So when everything goes this way, it just feels incredible.”

This victory pushed Davies’ Triton earnings past the $10 million mark, while growing his overall career haul to over $36 million. The World Poker Tour champion and two-time Super High Roller Bowl winner has now recorded six seven-figure tournament scores, with this latest win being his third-largest yet. Only his SHRB IX win ($3.2 million) and his SHRB PLO triumph ($1.5 million) exceed this latest windfall.

In addition to the hardware and the money, Davies also secured 1,224 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win. This was his second POY-qualified score of 2025, having placed third in the €100,000 super high roller at the European Poker Tour Monte Carlo stop just shy of two weeks earlier for $1,053,046 and 560 points. With 1,784 total points, Davies now sits inside the top 60 in the overall POY standings presented by Coin Poker.

The top 23 finishers earned a share of the $7,150,000 prize pool in this massive event, which ran May 17-18 at the Maestral Resort & Casino. Among the notables who cashed were Aleksejs Ponakovs (17th), Matthias Eibinger (15th), Kiat Lee (14th), Brian Kim (12th), Dan Smith (11th), Stephen Chidwick (10th), and event no. 2 champion from this series Alex Foxen (9th).

Danilo Velasevic held the lead when the official final table of eight was set, with Davies toward the bottom of the chip counts. Short stack Poseidon Ho (8th – $208,000) was the first to go, with Matthew Belcher (7th – $283,000) soon following.

Four-time Triton champion Fedor Holz was the next to fall. The German two-time bracelet winner was left on fumes after losing a battle of the blinds against Mikita Badziakouski, and soon after was forced all-in from the big blind with 7-5. Brazilian two-time bracelet winner Joao Simao isolated with Q-9 and held through a double-paired runout to send Holz packing in sixth place ($382,000). Holz now has nearly $51.7 million in recorded earnings to his name, good for 11th place on poker’s all-time money list.

Badziakouski lost a big one with A-K against the Q-J suited of Velasevic, who he barely had covered. Moments later he took his last stand with AClub Suit7Heart Suit from the small blind, only to find himself trailing the AHeart Suit10Diamond Suit of Jules Dickerson on the button. Both players paired their side cards and Dickerson’s tens earned him the pot and the knockout. Badziakouski, a five-time Triton champion, earned $493,000 for his fifth-place showing. The Belarusian now has more than $66.3 million in lifetime cashes, the third-most of any player in tournament poker history.

The next big clash saw Simao attempt a big multi-street bluff. He kicked off the action by min-raising to 800,000 from the cutoff with QClub Suit5Club Suit. Davies defended his big blind with AClub Suit3Diamond Suit and the flop came down AHeart SuitKClub Suit4Diamond Suit. Davies checked and Simao min-bet 400,000. Davies check-raised to 900,000 and Simao floated. The turn was the 10Spade Suit and Davies checked. Simao bet 400,000 again and Davies called. The river was the 3Heart Suit, improving Davies to two pair. He checked again and Simao shoved for 2,400,000. Davies made the call to leave Simao with less than a big blind. He was eliminated in the following hand after being forced in with 6-2 from the blinds, earning $615,000 for his fourth-place finish.

Jules Dickerson also attempted a big bluff, with his king-high move ultimately being looked up by the ace high of Velasevic, who surged into the lead while Dickerson’s stack cratered. Dickerson managed one double up before Davies doubled into the lead with pocket nines holding against the Q-2 that Velasevic shoved from the button.

Dickerson doubled a second time, but was soon all-in and at risk again. His AHeart Suit9Spade Suit led the QDiamond Suit7Club Suit of Davies preflop, but the JSpade Suit7Diamond Suit4Heart SuitKSpade Suit8Spade Suit runout saw him knocked out in third place. The UK resident secured a career-best payday of $751,000 for his podium showing.

Davies held nearly a 2:1 chip lead over Velasevic to start heads-up play. The two agreed to a deal that redistributed the remaining prize money, locking up $1,298,259 for the shorter stack and $1,436,741 for the chip leader while setting aside the title and $54,000 to play for.

It didn’t take long for Davies to convert his lead into a win. On the second hand of the match, Velasevic limped with 9Diamond Suit6Spade Suit and Davies checked his option with KHeart Suit6Club Suit. The flop came down KDiamond Suit8Heart Suit7Spade Suit and Davies check-called 800,000 into a pot of 1,500,000 from Velasevic. The turn was the JSpade Suit and Davies check-called again, this time to the tune of 3,200,000 (just slightly over a pot-sized bet). The river was the 4Heart Suit and Velasevic shoved 6,200,000 into the pot of 9,500,000. Davies made the call with his top pair, weak kicker, to finally get his hands on his first Triton trident trophy. Velasevic walked away with the career-best payday of nearly $1.3 million that he negotiated for. The Serbian now sports more than $3.1 million in lifetime earnings.
