Alex Foxen is quite simply crushing the live tournament scene in 2025. The 34-year-old American poker pro’s latest win saw him outlast a field of 130 entries in a $25,000 buy-in event at the Triton Poker Montenegro festival for his third career victory on that high-stakes tour. Along with the trophy, he also secured the top prize of $755,000.

This was already the third title and ninth final-table finish of the year for Foxen, who also took down a $15,000 PokerGO Tour Pot-Limit Omaha Series event and a $15,000 no-limit hold’em event at the U.S. Poker Open. The three-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner didn’t make his first final table of the year until early March, but has been absolutely on fire since then, cashing for over $3.5 since spring began.

Foxen climbed to 14th place on poker’s all-time money list with this latest win, surpassing Phil Ivey in the process. He currently boasts over $48.5 million in career cashes.

The 924 Card Player Player of the Year points that came with Foxen’s triumph in Montenegro were enough to move him from fourth to first place in the 2025 POY standings presented by Coin Poker. He now has a 400 point lead over second-ranked Shannon Shorr.

Alex is not the only member of his household that is amidst an incredible run. His wife, Kristen Foxen, has captured three titles across five final-table showings this year. She currently sits in 12th place on the POY leaderboard after having finished fourth in another $25,000 buy-in event at the same festival earlier in the same day as her husband’s victory. As a result, she extended her advantage atop the women’s all-time money list, with her $11.9 million in career tournament earnings giving her nearly $980,000 more than her nearest competition in Vanessa Selbst ($10.9 million).

This event took two days to play out inside Maestral Resort & Casino in Montenegro. The 130-entry turnout resulted in $3,250,000 in total prize money being paid out amongst the top 23 finishers. By the time the field combined onto a single table, Foxen had claimed the chip lead.

A classic race spelled the end of Tom Heung’s (9th – $$75,000) run, with pocket queens losing to the A-K of Jose ‘Nacho’ Barbero. He was soon joined by three-time Triton champion Webster Lim, whose middle pair of nines ran into the top pair of Foxen. Lim earned $94,000 as the eighth-place finisher.

Raul Manzanares Lozano’s first Triton final table visit concluded in seventh place ($129,000) when his Q-J suited was unable to overcome the pocket kings of two-time bracelet winner Artur Martirosian. Not long after that, Foxen opened with AHeart SuitJClub Suit from under the gun and two-time Triton champion Michael Soyza three-bet shipped for around 15 big blinds with ADiamond Suit7Diamond Suit from the big blind. Foxen called and held through a jack-high runout to narrow the field to five.

Israeli bracelet winner Barak Wisbrod had been ground down to just a handful of big blinds by the time his final hand arrived. He got all-in with K-10 flipping against the pocket eights of Barbero. Wisbrod spiked top pair on the flop, but an eight on the turn gave Barbero a set and a lock on the hand. Wisbrod walked with $224,000 for his fifth-place showing.

American poker pro Jesse Lonis was at his fourth high roller final table in a two-week span. He ran ASpade Suit10Club Suit into the AClub SuitKDiamond Suit of a surging Foxen. A king on the flop left Lonis in even worse shape, and he was drawing dead after the turn. The two-time bracelet winner earned $280,000 as the fourth-place finisher. With 11 final-table finishes so far in 2025, he is now ranked fifth in the POY standings.

Jose Barbero

Barbero was the next to hit the Foxen buzzsaw. He got the last of his stack in with AHeart SuitQSpade Suit facing 9Spade Suit9Diamond Suit for the runaway chip leader. The 10Heart Suit7Spade Suit7Club Suit8Heart Suit5Diamond Suit runout was no help to the Argentinian bracelet winner, and he hit the rail in third place ($341,000). This was his seventh final table of the year. With 2,890 POY points, he has joined the top ten in the overall rankings.

This left Foxen with a significant chip lead of 22,400,000 going into heads-up play against Martirosian, who held 3,600,000. Both players were vying for their third Triton title. The Russian was able to battle all the way back to take the lead before Foxen regained control, winning a flurry of pots to jump back out in front and pull away again.

In the last hand of the tournament, Foxen limped in for 400,000 total with 9Club Suit8Diamond Suit and Martirosian raised to 1,800,000 from the big blind with 10Club Suit4Diamond Suit. Foxen called and the flop came down 8Spade Suit8Club Suit4Club Suit. Martirosian led out for 1,200,000 and Foxen called with his trips. The turn was the ADiamond Suit and Martirosian moved all-in for 3,625,000. Foxen quickly called and saw that his opponent was drawing dead. The 5Heart Suit river was a mere formality, as Martirosian was assured of a runner-up finish for $512,00. He now has nearly $28.9 million in career earnings to his name.
