Colby Covington and Henry Cejudo clashed last week. But not in the octagon. It was in a poker tournament.
The two UFC fighters engaged in some verbal sparring as part of pre-tournament activities for the latest Celebrity Poker Tour event.
The war of words appeared to occur during a red carpet walk before the action began. Covington is a former UFC welterweight champion, and Cejudo has held titles in the bantamweight and flyweight divisions.
“Send him back to the shire,” Covington said, apparently needling Cejudo about his height.
Covington tends to favor playing the “super villain” as part of his role in the UFC, which may have carried over to the poker event as well.
“He can’t win shit, he can’t win shit,” Cejudo responded, perhaps referring to Covington losing his last two fights and no longer having a title.
“I’ll still knock your ass out, you’re a bum,” Covington responded.

Covington has a 17-5 professional fight record, including eight wins by knockout or submission. He is no slouch at the poker table either and has more than $280,000 in tournament winnings.
In August 2022, Covington won an $1,100 pot-limit Omaha tournament during the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open for $25,875. Just last month, he finished fourth in an $1,100 no-limit hold’em deep stack bounty at the same venue. At last year’s World Series of Poker Paradise stop, Covington finished 10th in a $10,000 buy-in event for $17,500.
The Celebrity Poker Tour events feature actors, comedians, and athletes competing on the felt live from the PokerGO Studio. On the felt, Covington had the last laugh, finishing runner-up for a $10,000 payout.
Former Los Angeles safety and current NFL free agent John Johnson III came out on top to claim the $20,000 top prize. He became the first NFL player to win a CPT event.
