Local Cash Game Grinder Wins RunGood Poker Series Main Event At bestbet Jacksonville

“I’ve played three tournaments in eight years, and this was one of them,” said George Wolfe after emerging victorious in the 2025 RunGood Poker Series Mission RunGood Jacksonville $1,200 main event at bestbet Jacksonville.

The local cash game regular outlasted a field of 465 entries at Florida poker hotspot bestbet Jacksonville to secure the title and the top prize of $92,817.

This was Wolfe’s largest payday on the circuit, and his first major live tournament score since 2016. Prior to this victory, the former Columbus, Ohio resident’s biggest cash had been the $84,037 he earned as the winner of the 2015 WPTDeepStacks main event at this same venue.

This latest triumph pushed Wolfe’s career earnings past $320,000, despite being primarily focused on cash game action.

This event ran from May 1-4, with three starting flights leading into one more combined-field playdown day. The top 57 finishers made the money, all advancing to day 2 with at least $1,840 locked up. The event featured a $300,000 guarantee, but ultimately awarded $483,600 in total prize money thanks to the healthy turnout.

Ali Imsirovic made headlines earlier in the event when he was disqualified late on day 1A of this tournament. The alleged poker cheat has been accused of various infractions, and in 2023 released a video statement admitting to multi-accounting. Imsirovic held the chip lead at the time that his stack was removed from play.

Among the many notables who ran deep in this event were 2021 Card Player Poker Tour bestbet Jacksonville champion Ben Scrogins (53rd), poker photographer Yekaterina Lukina (23rd), World Poker Tour champion Michael Vela (21st), and 2022 CPPT bestbet Jacksonville main event winner TK Miles (11th).

Wolfe entered the final table with a healthy chip lead. Shane Scorza closed the gap a bit by eliminating Aja Owens (9th – $9,282), but Wolfe soon knocked out Kelly Slay (8th – $11,732) and Nick Costa (7th – $15,015) to further pad his stack.

A preflop cooler spelled the end of local tournament fixture Edward Mroczkowski’s run, with his pocket jacks losing to the pocket queens of Scorza. Mroczkowski secured $19,457 as the sixth-place finisher to bring his career haul to just shy of $1 million.

Nikhil Sunku backed up his runner-up finish for $47,000 in the $400 buy-in kickoff event at this festival with a fifth-place showing in the main event. He got all-in with A-9 leading 10-9 suited of Phuoc Nguyen, but the board gave Nguyen tens up on the turn for the win. Sunku was awarded $25,521 for his efforts.

Despite scoring that knockout, Nguyen was the next to fall. He made his last stand with Q-9 and was unable to come from behind against the A-J of Scorza. Nguyen walked away with $33,882 as the fourth-place finisher.

Damian Brewster got all-in after a 1077 flop with J10 trailing the 76 of Wolfe. The 5c turn and 4s river were no help to Brewster and he was sent packing in third place ($45,520).

Heads-up play began with Wilfe holding a better than 2:1 chip advantage over Scorza. The margin was narrowed a bit early, but Wolfe then won a big pot with a rivered gutshot to take his largest lead yet.

The final hand of the tournament saw Scorza limp in for 100,000 total with QQ. Wolfe checked his option with 86 and the flop came down 865. Wolfe led out for 200,000 and Scorza raised to 650,000. Wolfe moved all-in with his top two pair and Scorza made the call with his overpair. The J turn left Scorza needing a jack, five, or queen on the end. Instead, the 10 completed the board to bring the event to a close.

Scorza earned $61,879 as the runner-up, his largest live tournament payday yet.
