A gaming industry veteran and former state deputy attorney general has been named the new chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Gov. Joe Lombardo nominated Mike Dreitzer to lead the board, which is responsible for regulating casinos and enforcing gaming law in the state.
Recently, the regulators were most actively involved in money laundering investigations at certain Las Vegas casinos. The board fined MGM $8.5 million shortly after it fined Resorts World $10.5 million.
“I’m pleased to announce Mike Dreitzer as the incoming Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board,” Lombardo said. “Mike has an extensive background in gaming compliance and brings decades of industry experience to the role. I’m confident that Mike will lead the Nevada Gaming Control Board with integrity and honor, while furthering its recent innovation and progress.”
Some of that previous work includes serving as president of Ainsworth Game Technology’s North America division, chief operating officer of BMM Americas, an international gaming test lab, and co-founder and COO of G3, a gaming content company.
Additionally, Dreitzer represented the Nevada Gaming Commission and the NGCB while serving as deputy attorney general. The new chairman graduated from Cornell University and earned a law degree from Emory University. He looks forward to leading the board in the coming years.
“I’m deeply honored by this appointment to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, and I’m grateful to Governor Lombardo for his confidence in me,” Dreitzer said. “I look forward to furthering the essential mission of the board, while supporting its agents and staff to ensure the highest quality gaming regulation for our state.”
Current NGCB Chairman Kirk Hendrick will vacate the position on June 22, after this year’s legislative session comes to an end.
“Mike is the perfect choice by Governor Lombardo based on Mike’s long career in gaming law, government, regulatory compliance, and business,” Hendrick said.
