The state of Kentucky advanced its sports betting bill this week, but its ultimate fate remains unknown.

According to a report from WDRB Media, a Kentucky State House Committee advanced HB 606, which would legalize both in-person and online sports betting.

Kentucky is a step closer to legalizing sports betting. The House Licensing, Occupations, & Administrative Regulations committee approved it Wednesday morning.

Kentucky has attempted to legalize sports betting since 2019, but efforts have stalled.

The vote Wednesday was the first vote for the 2022 version of the legislation.

The Bluegrass State’s 2022 legislative session wraps up in mid-April, so it appears, based on the amount of time left, that the bill is an underdog again this year.

Religious groups in Kentucky reportedly oppose the gambling expansion.
