Poker pro David Paredes has emerged victorious in the 2015 World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open $3,500 no-limit hold’em main event, topping an absolutely massive field of 1,027 players to win his first WPT title and the $723,227 first-place prize.

Paredes had previously finished runner-up in the 2014 WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open main event last January to fall just short of his first title on the tour but this time he was able to come out on top.

In addition to the money and the glory Parades also scored 1,440 Card Player Player of the Year points. This was his first POY-qualified final table finish of the year, and this win alone was enough to catapult him in to 113th place in the overall POY standings.

The event featured a $3 million guarantee, which was easily surpassed when the solid turnout built a final prize pool of $3,287,427. Parades entered the televised final table of six in third chip position behind chip leader James Gilbert and Maurice Hawkins.

Also at the final table was POY contender Joe Kuether, who was at his tenth final table of the year. Kuether eventually bowed out in third place, earning $262,994 and 960 points. As a result he climbed to third place in the overall POY standings.

That set up a final showdown between Paredes and Gilbert. Paredes began with just under a 2-to-1 chip advantage. It took only 18 hands for him to convert that into a win. On the final hand Gilbert limped in for 400,000 and Paredes made it 1.2 million to go. Gilbert moved all-in for just over 11 million and Paredes quickly called with the KSpade SuitKHeart Suit.

It was a cooler situation, as Gilbert had picked up the JSpade SuitJDiamond Suit. The board ran out 8Spade Suit8Diamond Suit2Diamond SuitASpade Suit5Heart Suit to secure the pot and the title for Paredes and send Gilbert to the rail in second place.

Here is a look at the payouts and POY points awarded at this final table:
