Poker Author James McManus to Debut New Work In Card Player Magazine
Card Player Magazine is pleased to announce the debut of a new magazine section featuring the writings of well-known poker author James McManus, author of Positively
“Poker: The Story of America’s National Pastime” will focus on the origins and evolution of the game. Articles will cover everything from the earliest roots of gambling through its development on
The history is part of a larger project, McManus’s next book, which is scheduled to be published by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux in 2009.
“I’ve been working on the history of poker for two years now and have about two years to go,” McManus says. “In the meantime I’m thrilled to be running excerpts in Card Player, poker’s leading magazine."
As he continues to research the book, longer excerpts of McManus’s work will also be featured on CardPlayer.com.
McManus brings a wealth of literary experience and poker knowledge to his writings. “We are thrilled to be working with an author of Jim McManus’s caliber,” says Card Player publisher
McManus’s work has been published in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Esquire, GQ, Forbes, Harper’s, and The Best American Sports Writing. He also teaches a course on the literature and history of poker at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He competes on the Professional Poker Tour, the NBC Heads-Up Championship, and in various World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker events.
