Resorts World Catskills awarded $250,000 to nonprofits across New York as part of the company’s “A Day of Giving” drawing.

The Genting-owned casino awarded $10,000 to 25 community nonprofit groups at its upstate New York casino. More than 400 nonprofits across the state applied through an open call. Thus, each group has about a 6% chance to win.

“The awards are tied to the 250th anniversary of American independence to direct investment in the groups doing frontline work in their communities,” the company said in announcing the charitable promotion.

Numerous Groups To Benefit

Recipients were selected by random drawing across Resorts World’s three New York regions. A total of $150,000 will go to 15 organizations in the New York City region, home to Resorts World NYC.

Resorts World gave another $50,000 to five nonprofits in the Hudson Valley. The last $50,000 will be sent to five organizations in the Catskills. The company operates gaming properties in those regions.

“The grants extend Resorts World’s RW Gives program, which has invested more than $3 million in over 200 local organizations since 2011 and matches employee donations dollar for dollar,” the casino group said.

“Across its three New York properties, the company has contributed more than $5 billion to New York State’s public education fund.”

The move comes about a month after the New York City casino settled a dispute with state officials over payments New York requires casinos to make to support the state’s horse racing industry.

The casino argues that the “racing support” payments of at least $150 million per year are part of its taxes. However, the New York Gaming Commission believed the payments were additional to the casino’s taxes.

Then, state legislators passed a bill mandating payments came out of tax contributions.

Casino Becomes NY Gaming Leader

Resorts World NYC was one of three projects to receive a downstate casino license and has begun conversion into a full-scale casino resort. The property launched live table games in April and has quickly become the state’s highest-grossing casino.

While the property has performed well in the Empire State, Resorts World Las Vegas has struggled since opening in 2021. The company’s Las Vegas property closed its poker room in March and local media reported that the property saw poor earnings in 2025.
