News surfaced on Thursday that Resorts World Las Vegas would be closing the property’s poker room. It comes on the heels of Planet Hollywood recently doing the same.
That now makes two properties on The Strip getting rid of poker in the span of a little over a month. The 29-table room at Resorts World will close at the end of March.
“We can confirm that the poker room will close on March 30,” the casino said in a statement to Vital Vegas. “We look forward to introducing new offerings that reflect our continued commitment to dynamic, high‑quality experiences.”
Dealer Breaks News In Instagram
Rumors began to swirl on social media throughout the day at the possibility that the room would close. That included an Instagram post from seasonal dealer ‘darkhrtlens,’ who worked at the property.
She was informed that the poker room was closing and her job would be terminated. She also recently lost a job dealing at another Vegas casino that shuttered its poker room amid renovations.
“It’s not my first rodeo; it happened at Poker Palace too,” she said in a video post in her car.
Additionally, a poker player who organizes a poker game held at Resorts World tweeted that the room was closing.
Chris Murray, posted on Twitter/X that the room was closing at the end of March. Then, Vital Vegas confirmed the closure and got the statement from casino officials.
Status Of PokerStars NAPT Event Unknown
Resorts World was one of the larger poker rooms on the Strip and offered a mix of low-stakes and higher-stakes cash game action along with some daily tournaments. In an interview with Card Player in 2024, Director of Poker Operations Leon Wheeler said the property benefited from the popularity of the poker room at the Wynn.
“We also piggyback off the Wynn at times when they run certain events,” he said. “We kind of cater to the lower buy-in tournaments when they raise their tournaments. Having the Wynn across the street is a plus, even though they’re the room to be in right now. We feel like the overflow from there crosses over.
The property had hosted the revived PokerStars North American Poker Tour since 2023, but the status of that series may be up in the air.
PokerStars ran the tournaments in the property’s convention space, so the closure of the poker room may not necessarily spell doom for the event at Resorts World since in-house dealers and crew were not heavily involved in the series.
