Hong Kong Amateur Defeats 2,354 Entries In APT Taipei Main Event

Lau Chun Shing Earned A Career-Best Score Of $532,483 For The Win

Ren Lin’s final-table showing in the 2026 Asian Poker Tour Taipei NT$55,000 ($1,724 USD) no-limit hold’em main event was his seventh of the year. While Lin is a highly-decorated poker tournament regular, it was ultimately a comparative newcomer who came away with the title. Lau Chun Shing topped the massive field of 2,354 entries to secure his first major live tournament title and the top prize of $532,483.

“Usually, my poker friends call me ‘Wo Jai,’ and I’m from Hong Kong, where I work as a real estate agent,” Lau told APT staff after coming out on top. “I started playing poker in 2018, beginning with very small cash games with friends.”

“As for tournaments, my first time playing was at the end of 2023,” he continued. “I’ve played several APT events since then. Although I hadn’t seen results in the main events, I’ve done quite well in the side events.”

Now, Lau is an APT champion. In addition to the hardware and the money, he also secured 1,080 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win.

Lin Continues Hot Streak

Lin ultimately placed eighth for $57,824 and 180 points. With 3,488 total points, he has moved into fourth place in the 2026 POY standings presented by CoinPoker. He has three POY-qualified titles already this year, including a pair of wins at the APT Jeju Classic in South Korea.

This hot streak follows on the heels of months of controversy for the Chinese player, who was accused of violating GGPoker’s terms of service by counseling a friend who was on the final table of a $10,000 online tournament on the platform via a video call.

Lin’s final hand of this event saw him run top pair of queens with a jack kicker into the same pair with a king kicker for the eventual champion. Lin now has more than $20.4 million in career cashes to his name after this latest deep run.

Lau went on to defeat Josh McCully heads-up for the title. The Australian earned a career-best haul of $304,608 as the runner-up.
