Some good news for Atlantic City?
Yeah, probably not, but it’s worth a try.
The brick-and-mortar casino business in Atlantic City apparently has experienced some revenue gains, even if you don’t take into account the online games which launched in late November. (It’s unclear how much revenue those games will generate, but the governor has hilariously thrown out a $1 billion figure by July.)
Press of Atlantic City pointed out that gaming revenue for November was $224.7 million, which was up from $176.6 million during November 2012. Now, there was a hurricane that ravaged the city in late 2012, so any comparison might be sort of bogus.
However, when you notice that revenues in October increased by four percent year over year, you might, and we can’t overemphasis the “might”, have a some good news for a resort town that has been blasted by bad headlines for quite some time. Atlantic City has been an abyss and an embarrassment, so any uptick, no matter how much of a stretch, is a big deal.
The back-to-back gains were the first since 2006.
Through November, Atlantic City carpet joints had siphoned $2.7 billion from gamblers. The sum that losers had dumped was down six percent compared to January to November of 2012.
