MGM Resorts is closing its Ohio property for a few days this week. The company is shuttering MGM Northfield Park for a few days this week as part of a change in ownership.
The property is located about 30 minutes southeast of Cleveland. However, MGM sold the racino in October for $540 million and the facility will now close on April 20 before officially reopening on April 22, according to MGM.
“New website and information about the property’s new rewards program will be provided soon,” the company posted on X/Twitter.
MGM Northfield Park will temporarily close April 20 as it transitions to new ownership and is expected to reopen April 22.

Private Equity Firm Acquires Operation
Clairvest Group, a private equity management firm based in Toronto, acquired the venue’s gaming operations. The company also reached a 25-year lease on the property, which is owned by VICI Properties.
This isn’t the first foray into gaming for the private equity firm. The Clairvest portfolio also includes the Wyoming Downs racetrack, Nash Casino in New Hampshire, Delaware Park Casino, and Meadowlands Racing and Entertainment in New Jersey.
The Northfield racetrack dates back to the 1930s, according to the Akron Beacon Journal, and added a casino in 2009 after Ohio legalized gambling. The property boasts video lottery terminal (slot-like) machines as well as a BetMGM Sportsbook.
Northfield hosts harness racing more than 200 days a year along with simulcast wagering. MGM purchased the property, which was previously known as the Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park, in 2018 for $275 million.
In other state gaming news, Wisconsin recently officially legalized online sports betting. In Maine, one of the state’s two commercial casinos has filed a lawsuit to block the new law legalizing online gaming through the state’s four federally recognized tribal groups.
