It’s been a tough run at casinos for Offset.
The 34-year-old rapper was shot at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida last week. Now, a Detroit casino filed a lawsuit against him over $100,000 worth of unpaid losses.
Motor City Casino alleges Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, took out the six-figure credit line during a visit to the property in March 2024, according to TMZ.
The lawsuit came just days before the shooting and alleges breach of contract, fraud, and more. As outlined in the credit agreement, the casino attempted to withdraw the money directly from Offset’s account after not being able to contact him.
The suit asserts that there was not enough money in the account to cover the debt. A representative for the rapper told TMZ: “We are working toward a resolution.”
Shooting Investigation Continues
The lawsuit marks a tumultuous week for Offset. The shooting took place in the valet area of the Hard Rock after he and friends allegedly got in an altercation with fellow rapper Lil Tjay and his crew.
Tjay was arrested for disorderly conduct as part of the melee and released from jail the following day. The shooter in the case has not been identified; authorities are working to determine who fired the shots.
“Seminole Police were on site immediately and the situation was contained quickly,” the department told the Daily Mail. “Two individuals have been detained by police. The investigation is ongoing. The site is secure and there is no threat to the public. Operations continue as normal.”
The rapper is expected to recover and a representative noted that he is “stable and being closely monitored.” The shooting comes after Offset’s fellow Migos member Takeoff was shot and killed in 2022 outside a bowling alley in Houston. Patrick Xavier Clark, 23, was later arrested and charged with that crime and a trial is now set for November.
Other Rapper-Related Casino Issues
A few other rappers have been involved with casino and gambling-related issues over the last few years. In February, Drake announced that he would quit sports betting following a $1 million loss on the Super Bowl.
Atlanta rapper Lil Baby said he quit gambling after sustaining $9 million in losses in 2024. In another incident, Nelly avoided charges related to a gambling spree at a casino in Missouri. Officers discovered an arrest warrant for the three-time Grammy winner after he won a $50,000 jackpot, according to reports. However, prosecutors declined to move forward with the case.
Additionally, Young Thug told his social media followers that he once lost $800,000 while at the tables in Las Vegas.
