After a long stretch of small Las Vegas poker rooms reopening, one is shuttering.
Planet Hollywood is closing its recently reopened poker room on January 31. A poker vlogger who works at the property with a channel dubbed “Vegas Poker Nomad” broke the news in a video released over the weekend.
Planet Hollywood was a poker staple on the strip, running a successful, but small room from the poker boom through the pandemic. But in the aftermath of the pandemic, the Caesars-owned property shuttered the room in 2021.
The room stayed closed until last spring. In May 2025, Planet Hollywood reopened the room in a different location. The previous room was located in the center of the casino floor, in the middle of all the other table games. But the second iteration of Planet Hollywood’s poker room was upstairs in the mezzanine section, overlooking the gaming area where the room used to be.
Room Had More Tables And Space, But Harder To Find
With 23 tables, the new room housed more than double the number of tables the original room had. However, the larger room didn’t translate to more games.
The property usually only had a handful of $1-$3 no-limit hold’em games running. Towards the end of its run, Planet Hollywood even began spreading $1-$1 no-limit hold’em with a $200 max buy-in as sustaining a couple of $1-$3 games proved to be too much for the property.
John Mehaffey, who writes for and founded Vegas Advantage, responded to a post about the upcoming closure on Twitter/X. Mehaffey said that even when the casino was busy, the traffic wasn’t funneling to the poker room. He believed the room’s location was a big reason for that.
“When we surveyed Planet Hollywood last week, the casino floor was very busy,” said Mehaffey. “The poker room has one shorthanded game running. The room is very nice, but I don’t think many tourists knew it was there.”
Successful Circuit Stop Despite Cash Game Decline
While cash game action was dropping, the property still put a strong tournament series together before announcing its closure. Planet Hollywood attracted 616 entries to its $1,700 no-limit hold’em World Series of Poker Circuit main event. Darren Rabinowitz took it down, claiming $175,430 along with his first WSOP Circuit ring.
The 616 entries and six-figure first-place payout came while running the series alongside a popular series up the road at Wynn Las Vegas.
But any semblance of tournament demand was ultimately offset by the lack of consistent cash game action. Planet Hollywood closes its poker room for a second time after less than 10 months after it reopened.
Planet Hollywood’s closure leaves 18 poker rooms in the Las Vegas Valley. The newest room at Green Valley Ranch, which reopened its Henderson poker room in December. Of the 18 rooms, 11 are located on the Las Vegas Strip with the only Caesars-owned rooms at Horseshoe and Caesars Palace.
