Planet Hollywood closed the property’s poker room in 2021, but is now bringing back an even larger room than the previous venue. The reincarnation of the room adds another option for cash games and tournaments to the Las Vegas Strip.
According to a report from PokerNews, the new room will feature 23 tables, with 12 of those dedicated to cash games. The venue is still under construction and will feature a gothic interior with 21 televisions and a balcony overlooking the property’s Pleasure Pit gaming area.
“I don’t think there’s a poker room on an elevated level like this that has an overview of everything going on below you,” one of the room managers and poker industry veteran Anthony Mink told PokerNews.
Tournament Action Returns To Planet Hollywood
Two separate spaces adjacent to the room will be used for daily tournaments and a private room for high-stakes games. Poker room staff said there was a possibility of live-streaming cash games from the venue.
The area dedicated to the new poker room is where the property used to hold World Series of Poker Circuit series once or twice a season. Ownership said they plan on reviving those two stops and bring the WSOP Circuit back to Planet Hollywood.
The last Planet Hollywood Circuit stop was a 16-event series in November 2019. Michael Trivett won the $1,700 no-limit hold ’em main event for $215,943
A new mixed game series has already been scheduled at the property. It will run in the new poker room from May 12 to 20.
Other amenities and features of the new room are expected to include a full-service bar, framed posters of various films featuring Las Vegas, and an attached bathroom.
Management said the room won’t compete with bigger rooms, but it may cater to mid-stakes and lower-level players, with daily tournaments starting at $100. The venue could see heavy traffic during the WSOP this summer.
Caesars Reversing Course
Caesars had numerous poker rooms up and down Las Vegas Boulevard for quite a while. However, Horseshoe Las Vegas is currently the only Caesars property with a functioning poker room.
In 2015, the company shuttered the Linq’s poker room. Then, after the pandemic, they closed poker rooms at Flamingo and Harrah’s. Planet Hollywood’s room closed in 2021, and last year, the company closed the poker room at its flagship property, Caesars Palace.
But Caesars is reversing that trend. Last month, they confirmed with Card Player that the Caesars Palace poker room was reopening before the start of the WSOP. Planet Hollywood’s re-opening would mark the third Caesars room on the strip. It trails only MGM Resorts, which operates four poker rooms in Las Vegas.
