Ryan Depaulo had quite a wild ride at the World Series of Poker Paradise in the Bahamas on Monday that eventually included some controversy.

The CoinPoker ambassador and vlogger bluffed off his stack against Alan Keating. He then busted a satellite but wasn’t quite finished in the $26,000 buy-in event.

Keating and Daniel Negreanu bought him in again. Depaulo initially asked to play for only 9%, but that was pushed to 15% by Keating. After getting back in on the action, Depaulo became part of the biggest controversy of Day 2.

Fold Or No Fold?

In Level 15, with blinds at 25,000-50,000 with a 50,000 ante, Andre Moreira opened to 100,000. Depaulo was in the next seat and called before James Caputo three-bet behind him to 200,000. The action folded around to Depaulo, who then moved all in for 1.2 million.

Caputo also called and Moreira then moved all in for 3 million. The controversy ensued when Caputo allegedly said something like he was calling Depaulo, but then exposed his hand, the A5.

The dealer saw that as a fold, but there was soon considerable discussion at the table. It took about 10 minutes to sort out the controversy. Caputo was ruled to have folded his hand.

Depaulo showed KK while Moreira held JJ. Depaulo was an 82% favorite to win the hand, according to the Card Player Poker Odds Calculator.

The flop then brought the KQ8, giving Caputo a set of kings, followed by the 4 on the turn and A on the river. Caputo would have made the nut flush. He responded by saying, “Fuck you guys!”

Depaulo wasn’t having it.

“He got screwed by confusion, but he did fold, Martin,” Depaulo told fellow player Martin Zamani, who argued Caputo had never actually said he folded. “I’m sorry, man. It sucks for you, but you folded.”

Depaulo later offered his take on the issue on X along with a video of the hand from his perspective. It does appear that Caputo tossed his hand away as if to fold and says “No” when asked if he would be all in with Moreira.

He then later said, “I didn’t fold.” Watch how things played out below:

Depaulo Close To $1M In Tournament Winnings

Despite winning the hand, that second buy-in wouldn’t be enough for Depaulo, who eventually busted the tournament for a second time. The New Yorker has $943,588 in tournament winnings, which included winning a WSOP online bracelet in his car in 2020 for $159,563.

In August, he became part of the CoinPoker “Creator Squad” and recently lost a massive hand to Linus ‘LLinusLL0ve’ Loeliger during the High Stakes Cash Game World Championship after Loeliger made a huge hero call.
