Isaac Haxton Captures First Triton Title With $2.8 Million PLO Triumph

American High-Stakes Poker Star Defeats 116 Entries In $100,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Main Event In Jeju

Isaac Haxton first cashed in a Triton Poker Super High Roller Series event back in 2017. In the years since then the high-stakes tournament star from Syracuse, New York  had accumulated $16.7 million across 63 in-the-money finishes in Triton events, but had never managed to close out a win.

It turns out the 64th time was the charm for Haxton, as he finally broke through on Sept. 21, winning the 2025 Triton Jeju $100,000 pot-limit Omaha main event for his first trident trophy and the massive top prize of $2,789,000.

“There’s a lot of noise in poker,” Haxton told Triton staff when asked about his lack of a victory on the tour up to this point. “I’ve won in other places, obviously. I’ve made a lot of final tables, it was bound to work out eventually.”

The 40-year-old defeated a field of 116 entries on his way to securing the title and the second-largest payday of his career. He now boasts total tournament earnings of $62,656,283, which is good for seventh place on poker’s all-time money list. The bracelet winner and two-time Super High Roller Bowl champion now has nearly $19.5 million in cashes in Triton events alone.

In addition to the hardware and the money, Haxton also earned 1,200 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win. This was his first title and 10th final-table finish to date. As a result, he climbed to 21st place in the 2025 POY standings presented by CoinPoker.

Nacho Strikes Early At Final Table

The strong turnout for this event built a final prize pool of $11,599,997. The top 19 finishers all earned a share of that hefty sum, with notables like Dylan Weisman (18th), Richard Gryko (15th), Punnat Punsri (13th), Paul Phua (11th),  and Martin Dam (10th) all running deep.

Haxton was in second chip position when the final table got underway with seven remaining. He trailed only Jesse Lonis, who is currently the top-ranked contender on the POY leaderboard with seven titles and 21 final-table finishes so far in 2025.

Klemens Roiter, an Austrian pro who also sits near the top of the POY ranks, was the first to fall. Roiter got all-in with pocket kings facing the pocket aces of Nacho Barbero, who was just days removed from winning his fourth Triton title. Roiter had outs going into the river, but was unable to come from behind and settled for $489,000 as the seventh-place finisher.

The second knockout of the final table also came at the hands of Barbero. Five-time Triton champion Danny Tang got all-in with an overpair of kings on a nine-high flop. He was up against top pair, a gutshot, and backdoor flush outs for Barbero. The turn brought a nine to give Barbero trips and a big lead in the hand. A river blank saw Tang sent packing in sixth place. The Hong Kong resident earned $655,000 for his efforts.

Five To Two

Rahul Byrraju’s run in this event came to an end in fifth place. The Dominica resident was left short after losing a sizable pot to Haxton. He then got the last of his stack in with KQ65 trailing the KK32 of Lonis and failed to hit. This first Triton cash for Byrraju was good for $838,000.

Two-time bracelet winner Robert Cowen was the next to be eliminated. The PLO specialist from the UK was down to 15 big blinds when he got involved in what would be his final pot. He three-bet Haxton’s open with AKQ2, committing the majority of his stack. Haxton called with KQ107 and the flop came down 873 and Cowen’s last few blinds went in. The 9 turn and 2 river kept Haxton’s hand best, ending Cowen’s run in fourth place ($1,037,000). This was the second-largest score of his career, trailing only the $1.4 million he secured as the 2022 WSOP $50,000 PLO event champion.

Haxton held a healthy lead going into three-handed play. The two shorter stacks clashed in the next knockout hand. The clash began with a button raise from Lonis and a big-blind defense by Barbero. The flop came down 986 and Lonis’ last few blinds went in with AQ65. He trailed the 101042 of Barbero. The 3 turn and 2 river kept Barbero’s pocket pair ahead, ending Lonis’ tournament in third place ($1,261,000). The two-time bracelet winner and three-time Triton champion grew his career earnings to nearly $26.4 million with his sixth seven-figure score.

Wild Heads-Up Clash For The Trident

Heads-up play began with roughly a 3:1 chip advantage for Haxton over Barbero.

The penultimate hand of the tournament was a wild and impactful one. Haxton limped from the button for 200,000 total with 10765 and Barbero raised to 600,000 holding AK95 in the big blind. The flop came down 775 to give Haxton sevens full of fives. Barbero led out for 400,000 and Haxton just called with his boat. The A turn gave Barbero the nut flush and aces up. He fired 1,100,000 and Haxton called. The river was the A, giving Barbero aces full of fives.  He bet 3,000,000, leaving himself with 2,300,000 behind. Haxton moved all-in, sending Barbero into the tank. After using up multiple time banks, he seemingly decided that he was up against quads and folded.

“I folded a full house,” said Barbero.

“Guess I made a really bad play,” said Haxton in the wake of the big clash. “I think I bluffed you by accident.”

The next hand, Barbero raised to 600,000 with AQJ2 and Haxton called with 10876. The flop came down 974 to give Haxton an open-ended straight flush draw and a wrap. He checked and Barbero checked behind. The A on the turn saw Haxton bet the pot for 1,400,000. Barbero shoved for 1,725,000 total with his top pair and Haxton quickly called. The 6 completed the board to give Haxton the straight and the title. Barbero settled for $1,897,000 as the runner-up.
