HogWild Poker Offers Free VIP Package To Derby Poker Championship

Charity Event To Benefit Blessing In A Backpack Organization

If you’re both a poker fan and a horse racing fan, it doesn’t get much better than entering free and winning a $710 Buy-In/VIP package to 2012 Celebrity Derby Poker Championship Gala in Louisville, courtesy of HogWild Poker, the original online league community. But here’s your real dilemma—if you win the charity event on May 3, will you put it on a Derby horse or roll it up into your bankroll?

“As a part of the Kentucky community, we at HogWild Poker get caught up in Derby-fever, too,” says Jeff Amrein, Founder and CEO. “We love being a partner in this event, where we can help people come here to play a great tournament with actors and top poker pros, that benefits charity. But if you’re a gambler you can’t help but get wrapped up in the excitement and you are surely tempted to play your winnings on Derby Day!”

The event benefits Blessings in a Backpack, an organization that provides food on the weekend for underprivileged children on the free or assisted-meal programs in the public school system.

“The Celebrity Derby Poker Championship provides another great reason for people to come to Louisville for Derby week,” said Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer. “This glamorous poker tournament benefits one of our worthy charities, and we applaud our sponsors who are helping to grow this event so that we can attract people from around the world.”

Held Thursday, May 3, at the historic Seelbach Hilton Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, the event is annually attended by an array of celebrities including event hosts Denny Crum (Hall of Fame Coach), Robert Williamson III (Pro Poker Player), and Vicky Gunvalson (Real Housewives of Orange Country), as well as past attendees including Ron White (Comedian), Oscar Nunez (The Office), Ken Davitian (Actor), Nathan Morris (R&B Group Boys to Men), Nora Roberts (bestselling author), and more. An array of Derby riding jockeys also play.

Last year, Nathan Morris, from the R&B Group Boys II Men, and poker pro Dan Shak split the first and second place prize after a showdown for top honors. A few well-known names who have played or attended the event in past years include comedian Ron White, poker champion Phil Hellmuth, Jr., best-selling author Nora Roberts, and pro golfer and former Ryder Cup Captain Corey Pavin, to name a few.
