Fatima Moreira de Melo is a relatively new member of Team PokerStars SportStars after turning her attention from the top rungs of the field-hockey world to the green of international poker felt. Since her debut as a team member, the Dutch lady has been quite the hit due to her focused but friendly approach to the game. Card Player asked her about her year and if she has any plans and resolutions for 2011.

Rebecca McAdam: How was your 2010?

Fatima Moreira de Melo: My year was great! It was my first year as a SportStar for PokerStars and it went better then expected. I made some final tables, won some tourneys online, and cashed in three events at the WSOP. Loved the traveling and meeting new people.

RM: Was it an up or down year for you poker-wise?

FM: Up. About 130,000 ⎯ A lot for me.

RM: Best moment of the year?

FM: Winning the Nighly Hundred Grand online on PokerStars right after I came back from the PCA, lying in bed with jet lag. I picked up my computer at two in the morning I think and ended up winning the thing ⎯ nice jet lag recovery!

RM: Worst moment of the year?

FM: Busting, and busting… and busting. Five-bet folding 7-2 suited in a small blind/big-blind battle on day 2 of a $1,500 WSOP event, blowing off 30 percent of my big stack only because of my testosterone level! Bad!

RM: Any New Year’s Resolutions?

FM: I’m going to try not to be nonchalant about anything anymore, in poker or otherwise.

RM: Have you any goals for 2011?

FM: Improving my poker game!

RM: What are you looking forward to the most in the new year?

FM: All the tournaments I’m going to be playing. All the PCA, EPTs, and WSOP events, I especially love EPT Snowfest.

RM: Have you any predictions for the new year?

FM: I’m not the type of person that likes to predict things in life, because I love surprises!
