About Global Poker

Formed in 2016, Global Poker is a sweepstakes site where you play with virtual coins rather than real money. You can purchase additional Gold Coins and accumulate Sweeps Coins, which you can redeem for cash.

Because it’s not a real-money poker site, Global Poker is legal in most US states. It has an excellent reputation and generates a large player pool, so there’s a packed out lobby 24/7. You’ll even find superstar Olympian swimmer Michael Phelps splashing the pot from time to time.

Sign up to find ring games across multiple stakes, MTTs with decent guarantees, special series, and engaging promotions. And you can get a bonus when you open a new account and use our Global Poker promo code.

Pros

  • Smooth software and customization options
  • Busy ring games and tournament schedule
  • All major game types plus Crazy Pineapple
  • Fun promotions and special offers all week

Cons

  • Unavailable in CT, DE, ID, MI, MT, NV, and WA
  • Not a great choice of payment methods

Global Poker Bonuses

As a social poker platform, Global Poker loves offering bonuses to encourage and reward its community for playing. You can claim some of them directly from your account or the promotions page, while others require a Global Poker promo code (like the welcome bonus).

The cool thing about the sweepstakes model is that you don’t have to make any purchase to access these bonuses and promotions. Let’s break down what’s available.

Welcome Bonus

You’ll start at Global Poker with a tidy sum of Gold Coins and some Sweeps Coins. The welcome offer at the time of our Global Poker review is 150,000 Gold Coins and 30 Sweeps Coins.

Sweeps Coins are the tokens you can redeem for cash, and you can play ring games with them at stakes as low as SC0.05/SC0.10. You must play through each Sweeps Coin 1x before redeeming.

Bonus Name Global Poker Sign Up Offer
Bonus Amount 150,000 Gold Coins & 30 Sweeps Coins
Min Deposit No purchase necessary
Max Withdrawal $10,000
Global Poker Bonus Code FLUSH

Global Poker Bonus Codes

Use a Global Poker bonus code to get additional Gold and Sweeps Coins when you sign up. You might also discover Global Poker promo codes for exclusive reloads and top-ups. To boost your odds of getting more Global Poker promo codes, keep an eye on social media accounts and sign up for newsletters.

Be sure to use the correct bonus code when signing up or purchasing additional Gold Coins.

Rakeback

Global Poker describes its rakeback as Giveback, and this bonus is applied automatically to your account in The Vault.

Giveback equates to 30% of the rake you pay in ring games, or 30% of the rake portion of your Sit’n’Go buy-ins. The Vault keeps separate Giveback balances for games played with Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins, as both earn rewards. It’s similar to the best rakeback deals at poker sites.

Rake is a standard 5% at the ring game tables, with a standard cap depending on the table limits. The rake on SNGs is listed as 7-10% of your tournament fee, but we found it’s almost always 10%.

Bad Beat Jackpot

One thing that really stood out during our Global Poker review was how the bad beat jackpot is structured. At almost all online poker sites, bad beat jackpots are triggered by hitting a qualifying hand. For example, holding aces full of kings and still losing.

At Global Poker, the bad beat jackpot is different. And a lot more literal.

Instead of having to hit a particular hand, you’ll earn points every time you take a bad beat. To qualify, you just need to have 70% equity or above when you get it in. If your opponent sucks out on you, you’ll get points that go towards a monthly leaderboard, with a minimum of SC100,000 awarded every month.

We found this to be one of the strongest features in our review of Global Poker, as it shows the team are truly thinking like players.

Weekly Promotions

Global Poker doesn’t stage weekly promotions throughout the calendar year. Instead, it runs one-off events, but there’s always something on offer. At the time of this Global Poker review, we found:

  • Summer Carnival: Complete daily challenges to gain entry to ‘Shovefest’ all-in tournaments. Winners get free entry to the weekend Hydra event, the showpiece weekly tournament with either GC100 million or SC200,000 guaranteed.
  • Gold Digger Challenge: Complete three Gold Spin challenges in the casino to gain entry into 1.1 Sweeps Coin Shovefests where you can win a share of SC85,000 every month. Find your Gold Digger challenges by clicking the yellow star icon at the top left of your lobby.
  • The Rattlesnake Open: Fronted by 23-time Olympic gold medal winner Michael Phelps, the Rattlesnake Open has SC1.5M in guarantees across more than 200 events in three weeks. Buy-ins start from just SC5.5.

Sweeps Rules

How sweepstakes poker works

The virtual currency at Global Poker is Gold Coins, which have no monetary value and are used solely for entertainment purposes as you play the action-packed games.

You begin your journey with free Gold Coins, which the site regularly tops up for you, but you can purchase more if you want. You receive free daily top-ups just for signing in, increasing daily for up to seven days before returning to the Day 1 starting point, which is GC7,000 and SC0.25.

You can play ring games and tournaments using Gold Coins or Sweeps Coins, but only redeem the latter for cash.

How Gold Coins Work at Global Poker

Use Gold Coins to play ring games or tournaments. If you sign up with our Global Poker bonus code, you’ll get GC150,000 straight away, which is more than enough to start playing. But you also get top-ups automatically each day you sign in.

Gold Coins have no monetary value and represent free-play poker at all times. If you’ve been playing poker for a while, you should be able to get the better of the inexperienced players who are much looser at the tables. We recommend reading our guide on how to play poker if you’re new to the game.

Gold Coins vs Sweeps Coins

When you purchase Gold Coins or the site awards them as a bonus, you also receive a smaller amount of Sweeps Coins. Using the tab at the top right of the poker lobby, you can switch between playing games with Gold or Sweeps Coins.

The critical difference is that, while Gold Coins are just for fun, you can redeem Sweeps Coins for cash, with one coin equating to $1. So, if you have the luck and skill to grow your Sweeps Coins balance, it’s well worth your time.

How to Get Sweeps Coins

The Global Poker sweeps rules mean you can’t purchase Sweeps Coins directly. Instead, they’re automatically added to your account when you receive or purchase Gold Coins from Global Poker. You can spin up your Sweeps Coins balance playing ring games or tournaments.

Cashing Out

Once you hit at least 50 Sweeps Coins, you can redeem them for cash – but you have to play with them first. So, to cash out 50 Sweeps Coins, you have to wager them in ring games or tournament entries at least once.

From there, redeeming your balance is simple, so long as you’ve verified your Global Poker account (which is easy, and just requires a simple I.D. check). Choose your payment method, and your reward will typically be paid within three to five business days, although some players report speeds of 24 hours or fewer.

Where to Play Online Poker for Cash

The sweepstake system is a smart system, but we also understand that it can seem like a lot of work. If you’d rather just play for real money, you can sign up at CoinPoker.

CoinPoker rakeback is paid out as you earn it, with no waiting around. Plus, in early 2026, they added in $1.5M in weekly CoinRewards, which can boost your effective rakeback to 100% or above at the microstakes. It also has the dream combo of soft games at low stakes, and pros to rail at the nosebleeds.

All tourneys and cash games use crypto, so you can cash out winnings right away with no fuss and no banks to delay your withdrawals.

Poker Games at Global Poker

Global Poker offers as many game types and formats as you’d expect from a major real money poker site. You can easily switch between playing for Gold Coins or Sweeps Coins using the tab in the top-right corner of the lobby.

Here are some of the games you’ll find:

Tournaments

Global Poker is big on tournament action, from heads-up SNGs to MTTs with vast player pools.

There are SNGs for Texas Hold’Em, Omaha, and Omaha Hi-Lo. For Gold Coins, buy-ins run from GC110 to GC111,000 on 2-, 3-, 4-, and 6-handed tables. Sweeps Coins SNG buy-ins start at SC0.25 and reach SC218.

Look out for the speedy Jackpot SNG games, which are three-handed, super turbo, and come with a randomized prize pool of up to 200x the buy-in.

MTTs cover regular, guaranteed, rebuy, bounty, and satellite variations. There can be 10+ tourneys kicking off simultaneously at peak times, but it’ll be two or three an hour earlier in the day.

Olympian Michael Phelps often plays the Sunday Eleven tourney, which has an SC11 buy-in and a SC10,000 guarantee. Some lucky winners even get a signed Phelps cap.

Cash Games

As we explained earlier in this Global Poker review, these are “cash games” in name only, as you’re not playing with cash. Ring games is a more accurate term. They cover Hold’em, Omaha, and Omaha Hi-Lo, with options for no limit, pot, and fixed limits. Choose from full ring games with nine seats to six-handed tables.

  • Gold Coin stakes: GC5/GC10 up to GC250,000/GC500,000
  • Sweeps Coin stakes: SC0.05/SC0.10 to SC10/SC20

Use a Global Poker bonus code to boost your starting balance.

Texas Hold’em

Texas Hold’Em is by far the most popular format at Global Poker online. It’s available in no-limit format only at the ring game tables. Finding a table is simple in the ring game lobby.

Omaha

Omaha ring games are pot limit only, and you’ll find several full tables across stakes at any time of the day. The Hi-Lo games are slightly slower to get going in pot- and fixed-limit formats. While Crazy Pineapple is available, we didn’t see any games running when visiting for this Global Poker review.

Private Games

One fairly unique feature at Global Poker is the Private Game room. Here, you can play private ring games or SNG tournaments with your friends. The action comes with a one-off set-up fee of GC25,000, then it’s up to you to bag the bragging rights at the felt.

Simply create a game, send an invite code to your friends, and wait for them to take a seat.

Other Formats

Unusually, Global Poker offers Crazy Pineapple games in ring game and SNG format. In case you didn’t know, Crazy Pineapple is a fun variant of Hold’Em, where each player gets three hole cards and must form a poker hand using two of them and the three community cards.

While it’s great to see a poker site offering something different, there were very few Crazy Pineapple players at the tables when we took a look. The game has been on the site since 2018, so it’s not as though it’s an unknown.

Global Poker Series & Tournaments

For a social poker site, Global Poker offers a busy schedule of regular tournaments and special series. As with all online poker sites, Sundays are the busiest and include most of the Global Poker flagship events. Special tournament series run quarterly to keep players of all levels entertained.

Regular Schedule

Tournaments run around the clock, seven days a week. But it’s on Sundays where the best action takes place. Standout events include:
Sunday Scrimmage: The premier weekly NLHE event with a 218 Sweeps Coin buy-in and 75,000 guarantee. Expect to face around 400 players.

  • Sunday Scrimmage: There’s SC60,000 GTD every week in the Sunday Scrimmage. The full buy-in is SC218, but there are 50 seats up for grabs each week through SC0.11 satellites, meaning you can get in for next to nothing.
  • The Hydra: A two-stage event running Sunday and Monday with a generous SC100,000 GTD and a reasonable SC99 buy-in. Qualify during the week via freerolls and low buy-in satellites.
  • Mini Hydra: Like The Hydra, but with cheaper entry. The mini version only costs SC11 to join and follows the same two-stage process.

Special Series

The site stages four special Global Poker Championship series each year, with one every quarter. The four combined are referred to as a ‘season’. So, for example, the 2025/26 season will include one each of The Goat, Eagle Cup, Grizzly Games and Rattlesnake Open. Each has huge guarantees and tournaments at all levels, so that all players can take part with a reasonable shot at success.

Each series in the season has huge guaranteed prize pools of around 990 million Gold Coins or 2 million Sweeps Coins, so there are plenty of opportunities to rack up some big wins.

The top nine Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins players from the Championships will receive free entry into a live finale in Las Vegas, where they’ll fight for the right to be named Global Poker Champion.

All four series leaderboard winners, and players of the series, together with a wild card, make it through to the exciting final.

  • The Goat: Midsummer action with SC2 million in prizes.
  • Eagle Cup: Runs during the fall with over SC2.1 million in combined guarantees,
  • Grizzly Games: The winter series, covering around SC1.3 million in prize pools.
  • Rattlesnake Open: The spring event, with over SC2.2 million on the line.

These series are large. The latest The Goat series had 33 tournament events, each with a Low, Medium, or High buy-in, plus freerolls. Most are Hold’em events, but there’s plenty of PLO, too. The Main Event (High) costs SC99, with options to rebuy and add-on, with a SC200,000 guarantee.

Unique Events

One-off promotional events at Global Poker tend to require you to play some of its casino games. Take the Summer Carnival, which in 2025 ran in early July. It stipulated that you must complete daily challenges, including spinning the reels on a slot, to earn free entry into one of eight all-in action Shovefest tournaments. Winners of these events then got free tickets for tournament action in The Goat series.

Global Poker also holds a monthly event called the Gold Digger Challenge. Complete spins challenges at the casino to enter free 1.1 Sweeps Coin Shovefest tournaments at the end of each month, with the winner chopping up a prize pool of SC85,000. Shovefests cap at 4,000 players, so register early if you earn a ticket.

Recent Updates

The latest major update at the time of our Global Poker review is that the site withdrew from the Canadian market in September 2025. In a statement, owners VGW Holdings claimed it was an “isolated” decision – so there’s currently no suggestion this will happen in other countries or states.

Sweepstakes-style poker and casino sites are available in most US states. Occasionally, a state decides they’re not lawful and forces them to close operations. Global Poker chose to exit operations in Nevada in April 2025 for this reason. Players got plenty of notice to redeem any outstanding Sweeps Coins.

In March 2026, Global Poker launched the Global Poker PokerGO Cup, demonstrating its relationship with the world’s number-one streaming service for poker. The showpiece was the SC100K Tournament of Champions, which had no direct buy-in or Global Poker bonus code, and instead required you to win your seat.

Then, in May 2026, Global Poker launched the ninth edition of the Rattlesnake Open, with more than 200 events and SC1.5M+ in guarantees.

Poker Strategy Tips

Playing at Global Poker is meant to be entertaining, but you’ll also want to build your Sweeps Coins balance and redeem it for cash. We’ve got five tips to help you get more from your Global Poker experience.

  • Manage your bankroll: Only purchase and play with coins you can afford to lose. Practice solid bankroll management, perhaps risking no more than 5% of your balance in any game. This way, you’re unlikely to bust and you can move up and down the levels sensibly.
  • Customize your settings: Get more comfortable at the tables by adjusting settings like button bet sizes, felt and deck color (including a four-color deck), animations, sounds, and more. The more comfortable you are while playing, the fewer mistakes you’ll make.
  • Claim Global Poker bonus codes: Global Poker is packed with rewards, housed in the promotions tab. Events where you can buy in using Gold Coins and win Sweeps Coins are especially valuable, as you can redeem them for cash. Remember to use your Global Poker bonus codes for free Sweeps Coins.
  • Start with ABC poker: When starting, play solid ABC poker. That means playing only your decent hands and not speculating with weak cards. Understand how your opponents are playing and adjust your style accordingly. Check out our low-stakes ring game strategy for some cool tips.
  • Explore the lobby: There’s so much choice at Global Poker that it would be a shame to stick to one game only. Try Omaha with Gold Coins to get a feel for something new, or enter tournaments with different formats, like rebuys or progressive bounties.

Lobby & Software

The Global Poker lobby is straightforward and easy to navigate. Two key tabs in the top-right allow you to flick between Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins. Below that, four key game tabs cover ring games, SNGs, tournaments, and Jackpot SNGs.

Check-box filters let you narrow down the results depending on format, limits (no limit, pot limit, fixed limit), and buy-in. Click on your game choice to register for a tournament or sit at a ring game table.

The tournament lobby is clean and contains all the standard information you need, including number of players, chip counts, tables, payouts, and blind structure.

The lobby doesn’t look cluttered with the distracting cartoon-style graphics you’ll see on some big poker sites. In-game animations are smooth and don’t jar your senses.

Global Poker Features

There are plenty of useful in-game features at Global Poker which help things run smoothly, from customizable buttons to reduced animation.

Here are the main features you can use to improve your experience at the tables:

  • Adjustable buttons: Set up your table with customizable button sizing, making things more straightforward. Clicking on the settings/gear icon in the top left of your table brings up this and many other customizable features.
  • Table options: You can switch up the look and dynamics of your tables by reducing animations, muting the gameplay sounds, hiding avatar pictures, disabling the chat, enabling auto top-up, and changing chip counts to multiples of the big blind.
  • Multi-table view: Play at up to seven tables at once with the multi-screen view at the top of the lobby.
  • Your Challenges: Clicking on the yellow star at the top of the lobby will reveal your ongoing and available challenges. These can reward you with extra coins, so don’t pass up on freebies.

Mobile App

You can play Global Poker in your web browser, as no download is required, making it super easy to get started on your desktop or laptop.

The software adapts automatically to your screen size for mobiles and is surprisingly smooth and hassle-free on a cell. You’ll only get to play four tables max on a mobile device, but things would be a little frantic at that point. We recommend playing one or two max at a time.

While the in-browser mobile play experience is solid, a downloadable app would at least mean you don’t have to log in each time you visit. We’ll update this Global Poker review if the site releases a full mobile app.

Payment Methods

Making your purchase and redemption transactions is straightforward. You’ll have to verify your account before making any transactions, though.

Purchases

When logged into your account, click the yellow ‘Get Coins’ button in the top-right of the screen, then follow the simple on-screen instructions to use one of these purchase methods:

  • EML: If you register on-site for a prepaid Global Poker Mastercard, this becomes an easy way to make future purchases.
  • Online banking: Pick your bank from the dropdown list or search for it in the search bar.
  • Skrill: Ensure your Skrill account is set up and funded before purchasing Gold Coins.
  • Apple Pay: You’ll need to set up Apple Pay on your device first.
  • Debit and credit cards: All major cards accepted, including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

How to Redeem Prizes

Once you’ve used Sweeps Coins to play ring games or tournaments, you can redeem them. You can select store vouchers as prizes, but most players prefer cash. You must redeem for cash using the same method you used to purchase Gold Coins.

Click the yellow ‘Get Coins’ button in the lobby, select ‘Redeem Prize’, then choose from one of the following options:

  • Debit/credit card
  • Online banking
  • Skrill

Personal Review

Global Poker describes itself as “the ultimate online social poker experience”, and it’s hard to disagree. There’s a genuine buzz only found at the best online poker sites, and it’s packed with player-friendly features.

Once I got used to the sweepstakes model as part of this Global Poker review, I soon forgot I was essentially playing with virtual coins. I just focused on accumulating and playing with Sweeps Coins, which I then redeemed for cash.

Using the Global Poker bonus code gave me a bunch of Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins to begin with, but there’s also an option to purchase more Gold Coins. It would be cool to see a few more payment methods added in the future.

Safety and Customer Support

Global Poker is licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), one of the world’s most recognized regulatory authorities for gambling sites.

Having a license means the platform must stick to strict procedures for your safety and security, so your details and coin balance are always safe. The site’s random number generator, which is used to deal the cards, is certified by iTech Labs.

Remember that Global Poker operates a sweepstakes model. You play for free, but have the chance to accumulate Sweeps Coins that can be redeemed for cash. This differentiates it from heavily regulated real-money gambling sites across the US.

The operator goes to great lengths to clarify its model, stressing throughout its website and messaging that games are free to play and no purchase is necessary.

Customer support is okay, but it’s chiefly available via a web form request or by searching through the on-site help articles. We’d like to see live chat or a helpline number to make it easier and faster to answer questions.

Here are your support options:

  • Submit a ticket request online via the website
  • Read detailed help articles online
  • Email support@globalpoker.com

Is Global Poker Legit?

Having a robust license from the Malta Gaming Authority gives Global Poker full credibility. It’s a sweepstakes-style operation, meaning it’s free to play and no purchase is necessary. As such, it’s legal across the US, except in seven states.

Some leading poker influencers, including Doug Polk, have streamed games from Global Poker. And swimming hero Michael Phelps is part of the player pool.

Here’s where you can play Global Poker:

  • US (except CT, DE, ID, MI, MT, NV, WA)

If you’re looking for Global Poker alternatives still accessible in Canada now that the site has left the Canadian market, we cover that topic in the video below.

Our top recommendation for Canada poker players is now CoinPoker, as it’s a crypto-based platform that’s still fully accessible.

Is it Legal to Play at Global Poker in the US?

Absolutely. The sweepstakes model is legal across the US because you’re not playing real money poker. Instead, you purchase virtual coins and try to accumulate Sweeps Coins, which can be redeemed for cash.

Some state regulators aren’t keen on the sweepstakes model and won’t allow residents to play. But, if this happens, it’s usually after a long, widely announced process. So, if your state decides to stop Global Poker, don’t worry; you should have plenty of time to redeem your outstanding balance.
