PokerGO’s $100,000 Super High Roller Bowl pot-limit Omaha final table just hit the internet airwaves and viewers were treated to a bluff-catching clinic from Sam Soverel.
The tournament was down to its final three with Soverel, John Riordan, and Brazilian pro Joao Simao. Blinds were 40,000-80,000 with an 80,000 big blind ante with everyone guaranteed at least $550,000.
The kick off the hand, Soverel limped in on the button with A♥9♦4♣2♠. Riordan completed the small blind with A♦10♣7♠5♣ and Simao checked his option with Q♥7♥6♦4♥.
Everybody checked the A♦10♣7♠ flop and the 2♥ came on the turn. The card gave Soverel aces up, but Riordan’s A-5 was a better two pair than Soverel’s A-2. All three players checked again and Soverel improved to the best hand when the 9♣ came on the river, giving him a better two pair.
Simao Creatively Amps Up The Aggression
On the river, Riordan and Simao both checked. Then, Soverel bet 160,000. Riordan called and Simao check-raised, announcing “pot” and raising to 960,000.
“Whoa,” said commentators Ali Nejad and Alex Livingston in unison.
“Time out. As soon as we say the word standard, something very much nonstandard ensues,” said Nejad. “Simao drops his zipper and gives the boys a glimpse.”
“This is fun,” echoed Livingston.
Soverel quickly called and Riordan let his hand go. Soverel surged back over the 7 million-chip mark and Simao was left with 550,000. Simao would go on to finish third before Soverel finished runner-up to Riordan, who won the event for $1.25 million.
