A new bill introduced this month would lower the legal gambling age in Nevada to 18.
Assembly Bill No. 86 comes from Silver State Assemblyman Jim Wheeler, a Republican. The measure would also allow those 18 and over to work in a Nevada casino.
The legislation said it would not allow those under 21 to drink alcohol in a Nevada casino.
According to a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the idea to lower the legal gambling age was briefly considered in 2008, but it was never given real legislative thought.
Nevada casinos took $11.26 billion off of gamblers last year, an increase of just 1.3 percent compared to 2015 and still well below the record of $12.85 billion in 2007.
The state’s gaming market has been relatively stagnant over the last few years.
According to thecollegeinvestor.com, the median net worth for an 18-year-old in America is about negative $9,000, a figure that gets worse up until age 21.
