2015 CarbonPoker Card Player Player of the Year Update — Michael Mizrachi and Chan Pelton Win

Another week has gone by without any changes to the top 20 in the 2015 Card Player Player of the Year race, sponsored by CarbonPoker. There were a few big poker tournaments that went down this week, however. Here is a look at the biggest results of the past seven days:

WPT DeepStacks Calgary

A total of 431 players turned out for the WPT DeepsStacks Calgary $1,100 CAD no-limit hold’em main event, building a prize pool of $322,732. In the end only one player could walk away the champion of course, and this time around that player was none other than 2006 Player of the Year winner Michael Mizrachi.

For his 24th title win “The Grinder” earned $64,780 and 720 Player of the Year points. This was his second final table finish of the year, and as a result he has climbed to 114th place in the overall standings.

The 34-year-old poker pro’s lifetime live tournament earnings now exceed $14.4 million after this most recent win, good for 11th place on the overall live tournament list money list.

Card Player Poker Tour Choctaw III Main Event

A whopping field of 656 entries turned out for the 2015 CPPPT Choctaw III $1,080 no-limit hold’em main event, blowing away the $300,000 guarantee to build a total prize pool of $636,320. As a result the top 72 finishers made the money, but the largest chunk of that sizable prize pool was awarded to eventual champion Chan Pelton.

For the win Pelton earned $130,445 and 840 POY points, enough to instantly catapult him into 84th place in the POY standings.

Pelton topped a tough final table that featured defending CPPT Choctaw main event champ Austin Lewis, 2014 runner-up Gary Luther and 2013 runner-up Miguel Hernandez.

In the end it came down to a heads-up showdown between Pelton and Andrew Watson. Pelton came out on top, but Watson earned $80,717 and 700 POY points for his deep run.
