At around 4 p.m. local time in Las Vegas on Monday, Phil Ivey, who needs little introduction, was deep in a $1,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em event. The field started with 2,071.
Ivey has nine World Series of Poker bracelets, but none of them are in hold’em.
He was in the top 10 in chips with just over 80 left at around 4 p.m. It was his first cash this summer. He seems to be in every single event.
Ivey is coming off a Series last year where he made five final tables, but didn’t win any. However, he captured his ninth bracelet in April at an offshoot of the World Series in Australia.
The event will play down to a final table on Monday, and a winner should be crowned Tuesday.
