The player, who does not wish to be named, converted almost €150,000 of his winnings into Bitcoins via Switch Poker over the last year simply to have a handy way to withdraw funds.
However he never withdrew the funds nor did he convert them back into Euro and due to the rapid ascent of the value of the coins from $31 at the end of February 2013 to $250 at the time of writing he has made a paper profit of over €1 million.
A spokesperson for Switch Poker said, “Inertia took over and the player never converted his funds back to Euro, leaving them sitting as Bitcoins for a couple of months. With the recent surge in value in Bitcoins these funds are now worth over an estimated €1.2 million. Not too shabby!"
Switch Poker is one of the few bitcoin poker sites to allow deposits and withdrawals in the crypto currency.
