Although Tom “durrrr” Dwan was one of the biggest losers in September, he has drastically reversed his fortunes so far in October.
The 24-year-old Dwan sustained blows from multiple high-stakes foes last month. However, the downswing was largely due to falling behind almost $700,000 in the Durrrr Challenge with Dan “Jungleman12” Cates.
While Dwan and Cates resumed their battle this past week after a short break, with Dwan chipping away not much more than $1,000 into his deficit on Sunday and erasing an additional $31,778 last night, it was Dwan’s session with Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies this past week that put him in the black nearly $1 million.
A majority of the profits came at $500-$1,000 pot-limit Omaha on Full Tilt Poker late Sunday night. The largest confrontation came when Sahamies had the button and started the action off by raising to $3,000. Dwan was in the big blind, and he three-bet to $9,000. Sahamies four-bet to $18,000, and Dwan called. The flop came J

Sahamies bet $36,000, and Dwan check-raised to $144,000. Sahamies went all in for just under $190,000 total. Dwan called with the A 6 10

J 9 8 for top two pair. According to Card Player’s Omaha odds calculator, Dwan and Sahamies were in an almost perfect coin flip on the flop.
One of Dwan’s outs came with the 4 on the turn, giving him his straight. The Q fell on the river, failing to improve Sahamies to a full house. Dwan raked in the $415,995.50 pot.
Nearly all of Dwan’s profits over the past seven days came from Sahamies. Even though Dwan had one of the best week’s of his career, he managed to lose some money to one of his infamous arch-villains — Isildur1.
The mysterious Swede, presumed by many in the poker world to be Viktor Blom, took on some of the nosebleed regulars at no-limit hold’em this past week. Although Isildur1 won a little from Dwan, he managed to lose it all back to Cates.
On Monday at $100-$200 no-limit hold’em, Cates had the button and raised to $600. Isildur1 was in the big blind, and he three-bet to $2,200. Cates four-bet to $4,800, and Isildur1 called. The flop came 8 2 2, and Isildur1 checked.
Cates checked behind, and the 10 fell on the turn. Isildur1 bet $7,600, and Cates called. The river brought the 3, and $22,600 was bet into Cates. Cates moved all in for just more than $66,000 total. Isildur1 called and mucked when the A A of Cates were exposed. Cates scooped the $135,347.50 pot.
Other than Dwan and Cates, nosebleed regulars Patrik Antonius, David Benefield, and Prahlad “Prefontaine” Friedman had profitable past weeks. Antonius won nearly $500,000 in a session versus unknown WastedPotential.
Joining Sahamies in the red this past week was Gus Hansen. It looked like things were turning around when Hansen won nearly $1 million from the prize money in capturing his first career bracelet and from a solid session online in late September. However, Hansen couldn’t find any traction this past week. He dropped half of his profits from the end of last month, losing nearly $500,000 to unknown DrugsOrMe at $500-$1,000 pot-limit Omaha late last week.
