The PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) events are now in full swing. The SCOOP is a 22-tournament series spread out over 11 days of action. Each tournament is offered with three different sets of buy-ins ranging from low, to mid, to high stakes. Buy-ins are offered for as little as $5.50 and can be as high as $25,500. What looked like one of the quieter days on at the SCOOP turned out to be one of the more exciting days of the entire series. Continue reading below to check out the day’s events.
Event No. 19 — Pot-Limit Omaha
The day kicked off with pot-limit Omaha and the low, $50 buy-in drew in a field of 3,303. PandaTamer came out on top and took home the $25,928 first-place prize.
The mid-stakes, $500 buy-in tournament was won by Julian "jaeh00d" Rodriguez, who pocketed $67,513 for his efforts.
There was a stacked field of 190 in attendance in the high-stakes, $5,000 buy-in tournament. The final table featured Sorel "zangbezan24" Mizzi (ninth), Chad "lilholdem954" Batista (eighth), Eric "p3achy_keen" Liu (seventh), Brian "aba20" Townsend (sixth), Thomas "Viking79" Wahlroos (fifth), Bobby "BobbyFi" Firestone (third) and the eventual winner, David "WhooooKidd" Baker (pictured above left).
Baker was the last man standing and was rewarded with $215,000 for his accomplishment. Thanks to the 600 points he picked up in the Card Player Online Player of the Year race, Baker has now moved into the top ten, settling in at the number seven spot.
Event No. 20 — Six-Handed Limit Hold’em
The second event of the day featured short-handed limit hold’em. The low-stakes, $50 buy-in tournament was won by Perumov, who scored a $19,467 payday.
Meanwhile, at the mid and high-stakes tournament, Terrecne "Unassigned" Chan (pictured right) was heads up in both. Chan, a former PokerStars employee and avid blogger, saw both tournaments begin to slip away before he mounted a comeback. Eventually, he turned things around in the $500 buy-in, defeating jasjas11 for the first win and $51,300.
Admittedly, Chan was concentrating on the bigger, $5,000 buy-in, where he was heads-up with none other than OPOY leader Shaun Deeb. Chan ultimately pulled out the victory there, as well, and earned another $134,887.
Deeb (pictured left), who has a slim 50-point lead in the OPOY race, was unable to pick up any points on the day because the field reached a brutally close, but not close enough, size of 99 players. Instead, he had to settle for $90,337 in winnings.

Today’s SCOOP action will finish off the series with heads-up no-limit hold’em and the two-day Main Event.
