Nelson Mari Sanchez Hits The Jackpot In The WSOP $777 Lucky 7’s Event

Spanish Player Bests 8,012 Entries To Earn $777,777 and His First Bracelet

While modern touchscreen slot machines have largely rendered the classic one-armed bandits relics, the lucky association of 777 persists in gambling culture. The jackpot-invoking symbolism was brought to bear on the $777 buy-in no-limit hold’em lucky 7’s seven-max event at the World Series of Poker. The tournament first debuted a decade ago at the WSOP, and has become a staple of the schedule.

The 2025 running drew a massive field of 8,012 entries to create a total prize pool of $5,447,118.

Spain’s Nelson Mari Sanchez came away with the guaranteed top prize of $777,777, defeating Canada’s Yu Liu to secure the bracelet.

The top 348 finishers made the money in this event, with plenty of stars of the game running deep. Among the notables who made it down to the business-end of this event were four-time bracelet winner Huck Seed (60th), bracelet winner Jack Duong (58th), three-time bracelet winner Michael Wang (49th), Justin Arnwine (34th), bracelet winner Erik Cajelais (29th), Katie Lindsay (28th), recent bracelet winner Justin Fawcett (21st), and bracelet winner Ronnie Bardah (11th).

Final Day’s Action

The third and final day of this event began with eight players remaining. 2022 WSOP tag team event winner and CoinPoker Ambassador Patrick Leonard was hit the rail the bubble of the official seven-handed final table, running AJ into the AK of eventual third-place finisher Nicola Bracchi. Leonard earned $59,470 for his eighth-place finish. The online poker legend from the UK now has more than $5.2 million in recorded earnings to his name.

Mari Sanchez doubled up early at the final table. He then busted Hayato Kitajima (7th – $77,777), Kieran Walsh (5th – $135,777), Allen Shen (4th – $181,777), and Bracchi (3rd – $244,777) to take better than a 3:1 chip lead over Liu.

In the final hand, he raised from the button with A10 and called Liu’s three-bet shove. Liu held A3. The board ran out K106KQ   and Mari Sanchez’s kings and tens with an ace kicker earned him the pot and the title. Liu walked away with $332,777 for his runner-up performance.
