David Coleman Kicks Off Poker Masters With $1,000,000 Showcase Victory

Poker Pro Tops Field Of 239 Entries In $5,000 Event To Earn $270,000

The 2025 Poker Masters is underway inside the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino Las Vegas. The first event on offer was the $5,300 buy-in $1,000,000 Showcase. The event attracted 239 entries across two starting days, resulting in a final prize pool of $1,195,000. In the end, the largest share of that was awarded to champion David Coleman. The Vegas-based poker pro, originally hailing from New Jersey, earned $270,000 for the win.

This victory helped grow Coleman’s career earnings to more than $12.3 million. In addition to the money and the hardware, Coleman also earned plenty of rankings points for this performance. This was his first win and 10th final-table finish of 2025. He recently put together a string of final-table showings at the European Poker Tour Barcelona that included four runner-up finishes in high roller tournaments. With 3,616 Card Player Player of the Year points, he now sits in 43rd place in the overall standings presented by CoinPoker.

Coleman also moved inside the top 100 in the PokerGO Tour season-long points race, with his 270 windfall for this event bringing his total to 491 points. He currently leads the race for the Poker Masters Purple Jacket, as well.

Plenty Of Action Early

After two starting flights and a third day of combined-field action, this event was down to just seven contenders. Coleman came into the last day in a virtual tie for the chip lead, with his 6,950,000 trailing the 7,125,000 of Andrew Ostapchenko by less than two big blinds.

The first knockout of the day came via a classic preflop race, with bracelet winner Mitchell Halverson’s AK facing the 1010 of Jim Agate. Halverson hit both of his overcards by the turn, giving him aces up and the pot. Agate earned $40,000 as the seventh-place finisher.

Not long after that, Doug Lee found himself all-in and at risk. The PGT satellite winner shoved from the button with 77 for 1,250,000. Halverson called with 88 from the small blind and Ostapchenko picked up KK in the big blind. He three-bet shoved having Halverson well covered, drawing a fold. The board came down AJ5310 and pocket kings remained best to end Lee’s run in sixth place ($49,000).

The next elimination also involved a monster pocket pair. Spencer Champlin ran A10 into the AA of Coleman. The chips got in preflop and an ace-high runout gave Coleman a set and the knockout. Champlin earned $60,000 as the fifth-place finisher.

Coleman Picks Up Steam

Bracelet winner and European Poker Tour main event champion Stephen Song’s run in this event came to a brutal end, with his KK being cracked by the A8 of Coleman. Song opened from the button then four-bet shoved over Coleman’s small-blind three-bet. Coleman called and drilled the nut flush on the flop. The final board of J528Q saw Song eliminated in fourth place. The $75,000 payout grew his career earnings to nearly $11.2 million

The next big clash pitted the Coleman’s 1010 against the KQ of Ostapchenko. Action began with a limp from the button for Ostapchenko, who then three-bet jammed over Coleman’s big blind raise. Coleman called and the flop came down AQ6 to give Ostapchenko the lead. The 9 turn meant that Coleman had only one out to scoop the pot. The 10 rolled off on the end, giving Coleman a winning set and the pot. Osapchenko earned $120,000 as the third-place finisher. This was the 12th final table of the year for Ostapchenko, who has three wins so far in 2025. He now sits in fifth place in the POY standings as a result.

Heads-Up For The Title

Coleman had roughly a 3:1 chip lead over Halverson when heads-up play began.

It didn’t take long for him to convert that lead into the title. In the final hand, Coleman limped from the button with Q10 and Halverson shoved from the big blind holding 55. Coleman called the 9,500,000 jam and the board came down 10108J3 to give Coleman trip tens and the title.

Halverson was awarded $185,000 as the runner-up. This was the third-largest score of his career. He now boasts more than $2.9 million in recorded cashes after this latest deep run.
