The RioThe World Series of Poker announced the names of the 20 poker pros who were voted into the 2010 Tournament of Champions today, completing the 27-person field.

There was little surprise at the top, as Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu distanced themselves from the pack to lead all of the fan favorites, with Ivey receiving just 28 more votes than Negreanu.

Jennifer Harman was the only woman voted into the top 20. Annie Duke will also compete in the $1 million freeroll, as a result of her previous TOC win.

Greg Raymer, Joe Hachem, and Antonio Esfandiari grabbed the final three fan spots for the June 27 event.

Bertand Grospellier won the play-in spot last week.

there are few guys that are questionable: harrington, lederer, ferguson, hachem and raymer. I know, I know - these guys are great, but I feel the voting was based on name recognition and not accolades. Where is Mercier? Where is Dwan? Where is Isilidur!!!
No, not Isilidur, but you know what I'm mean. Some of these guys haven't done much in a good while. I just wish it showcased some rising stars, and not the same old faces. It'll be like a re-run of the 2006 Main Event or something. For my money, I'd rather see Cantu or Lisandro? That guy won 3 bracelets last year. I mean, Jen Harman is wonderful, but her spot could've gone to a Vitaly Lunkin or Praz Bansi. Hell, the Grinder should be in this thing too. I know it went by only bracelet winners and some guys were excluded, but even then they made some poor choices. I didn't vote for a lot of these guys, mainly the ones I named. To not have Dwan in it is like not having Jordan in a slam dunk contest or Tiger Woods in the U.S. Open. You need Doyle. You need Ivey and Daniel. Juanda would be my favorite guy in this tournament. He's been on a tear and he's not slowing down. They made this so unfair to players playing well NOW, as opposed to five years ago (i.e. Ferguson).

Oh well, it should still be interesting.

Also, a guy like Phil Gordon, who doesn't own any hardware, should be playing. He does a lot for the game as at outside (bat beat on cancer etc.) He should have received an exemption. He's a great guy and is a champion either way.

How are these selections unfair? They gave people the opportunity to vote. They didn't select the players directly like they do for the NBC Heads Up Championship. Poker fans voted on who they wanted to see. If you don't like the selections, blame the people who voted.

I don't agree with all these selections but the 1 guy person who didn't make it Michael Jordan ah I mean Tom Dwan surely was the least deserving. He has never won a tournament any where and it is the TOC. All he has is name recognition from cash game play.

People have to realize its a Tournament of Champions, not a showcase for up and coming players. Obv an event like this is going to lean more toward older players who aren't very productive now than up and coming popular stars who have yet to realize much WSOP success. Im pretty sure thats the intent anyway, and im glad the fans who voted thought so too.

You had to have a bracelet just to be in the running. Thats why they let Elky, durrrr, and a few other stars who have never won a bracelet play for a spot.

Well, like I said: It's not fair to players NOW. If you voted, which I hope some of you did (otherwise why would you respond?), you would have seen that the names were not given in alphabetical order, but by bracelets won, which you might as well have just given the top ten bracelet winners (still alive obviously) a spot. A Tournament of Champions, in my opinion, should showcase the best the GAME has to offer, not just tournament play or live play or online. It's not a diverse group. It's basically a Senior's Event. Anyone who disagrees that Mercier is not one of the best players playing right now is mental. The same goes for Dwan. Someone had the balls to comment that he would only be there for name recognition? As opposed to Howard Lederer who hasn't done much at all (except those Full Tilt ads). If you guys are so hung up on champion this and champion that, where's Moneymaker? He started this whole thing. Where's he? He's a big name. Where's Jerry Yang? Dan Harrington is a champion, but his time is over. So is Ferguson, and Lederer, and a lot of those "part-time" players. Give me some hyper-aggressive young guns to mix it up with the vets so it's not a snooze fest. Elky is a nice addition, but Dwan, Mercier, and Phil Gordon (an ambassador like Mike Sexton) should all be in this thing. Next year I suppose.

ted your quote"I know- these guys are great but I feel the voting was based on name recognition and not accolades." So please tell me what does Dwan have besides name recognition in cash games he has no tournament wins, mainly because of age. In 3 or 4 years you'll get your wish for young players getting into to the TOC if it is still around. And yes I felt Moneymaker should have made it over Lededer.
