There have been a ton of high-profile heads-up cash games featured on the CoinPoker YouTube channel in recent weeks, a site gaining reputation as the top high-stakes cash game provider on the market.

‘DavyAzevedo’ and’“AntonioMiranda’ were the latest to do battle, playing $200-$400, with about $20,000 effective stacks.

Action

DavyAzevedo opened to $800 with 8Heart Suit 7Heart Suit and AntonioMiranda called with a mystery hand.

The flop came AClub Suit QHeart Suit 6Spade Suit, giving DavyAzevedo double backdoors, and both players checked.

The turn brought the 5Spade Suit and AntonioMiranda lead out for $1,728, virtually a full-pot bet. DavyAzevedo made the call, having picked up an open-ended straight draw.

The 9Club Suit hit the river, giving DavyAzevedo the unlikeliest of nut straights. AntonioMiranda, once again, went for a nearly full-pot bet, putting $5,188 into $5,216. DavyAzevedo opted to put in a min-click to $10,376, leaving just over $6,500 behind.

AntonioMiranda called and was shown the bad news, and the $26,000 pot went to DavyAzevedo.

Analysis

While most players would find a continuation bet on this flop in position with eight-high, DavyAzevedo went with the check despite only having double backdoors. This is a perfectly reasonable play, as it’s important to balance your checking range with value and relative trash. DavyAzevedo could check back some queens, some weak aces, and also hands like his that can turn a huge amount of equity.

On the turn, AntonioMiranda led with a pretty polar bet size. He was sending the message that he either had a strong hand, a strong draw, or complete air. DavyAzevedo turned an open-ended straight draw and had little choice but to make the call. Raising wouldn’t accomplish much of anything as he basically only makes AntonioMiranda fold complete air, and he would hate to face a shove.

On the river, we can only theorize what AntonioMiranda had, but going pot-pot and calling a river min-raise, he probably had a set of fives or sixes or, at worst, a strong two pair on the turn. DavyAzevedo could have shoved this river to get max value and potentially missed out on an extra $6,500 given that AntonioMiranda showed a ton of strength and would likely have only folded his bluffs.
