In his own words, Antony Vidmer went on a heater at the right time. He began the final table of the Card Player Poker Tour bestbet Jacksonville $1,500 no-limit hold’em $300,000 guarantee main event as the second shortest stack in play.
Six and a half hours later, Vidmer, who wrote and directed High Roller: the Stu Ungar Story, ended the night as the latest edition to the CPPT list of champions and an $83,838 pay-day. He also earned 600 Card Player Player of the Year points.
“This isn’t my biggest payday, but it is the biggest tournament I’ve won,” Vidmer said. “I’ve won a few other tournaments but they are usually Omaha-eight. I like playing those tournaments.”
The 390-entrant tournament came down to Vidmer, Sean Rean and Heng Zhang and after the elimination of former runner-up TK Miles, the three agreed to an ICM chop. Rean took home $82,826 and Zhang left with $69,252.
“I had a great time,” Vidmer said of the bestbet main event. “Great staff, a great place to play poker, all the guys were great.”
