Seven-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu’s name recently surfaced in the Epstein files.

Don’t worry. The Poker Hall of Famer didn’t visit the island or even have direct contact with Jeffrey Epstein. Negreanu was only mentioned in correspondence between Epstein and entrepreneur/investor Austin Hill.

Based on the 2017 email, Hill and Epstein played poker together. And Epstein appeared to need some help. Hill thought Negreanu would be a good person for Epstein to learn from.

In the email, Hill linked Epstein to a YouTube tutorial on poker strategy. Hill said the poker legend produced the video.

“It was fun to play poker with you,” wrote Hill. “Here is the basics on how to play done by one of the greats, Daniel Negranau.”

The news came after the Justice Department’s latest release of documents regarding Epstein, the disgraced financier who was convicted of soliciting a minor for prostitution and accused of child sex crimes and human trafficking.

Negreanu Makes Light Of Mention

The email came almost a decade after Epstein reached a plea deal related to charges involving sexual abuse of up to 36 teenage girls.

Negreanu took the mention of his name in stride, noting the spelling errors in his last name.

Hill was the co-founder and served as CEO of Bitcoin technology firm Blockstream. He reportedly had connections with Epstein dating back to 2014, including correspondence regarding investments and potential meetings.

According to Yahoo Finance, Epstein invested in the company and invited Hill to his private island in the US Virgin Islands, known as Little Saint James, in 2014. It’s unclear if he ever visited the island, but the two discussed meeting in New York and Montreal in other communications.

The message regarding Negreanu was solely about playing poker. Hill hasn’t commented on his relationship with Epstein.

Negreanu has spent decades in the poker spotlight without much controversy. Voters inducted the native Canadian into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2014, alongside tournament director Jack McClelland.
