Updates on Final Day (Jun 05, 05)

Tom Werthmann on the ropes

Layne Flack makes it $61,000 and Werthmann raises it up to $120,000. Layne thinks a long while and calls. We have over $300,000 in the pot pre-flop. The flop comes Qc-10s-5d. Werthmann puts the rest of his chips in and Flack calls. Tom turns over Ad-Kd for a gutshot straight draw and a backdoor flush draw. Flack shows Ah-10d and his pair of tens are in the lead. The turn is the 8s and the river is the 2c. Flack's tens hold up and he now has $1.4 million in chips. This left Werthmann with only $30,000.

Green doubles through Flack

Green just doubled up off Flack. Green held A-J and flopped an ace. Layne held K-Q and slides $96,000 more over to Green who is now teetering around $200,000. Flack is down to $700,000 but still our leader

Chip counts

Flack has picked up a few pots and is our chip leader again. Here are updated chip counts: Layne Flack $810,000, Tom Werthmann $660,000, Tony Ma $140,000 and Martin Green $100,000

Chip counts

Here are chip counts: Tom Werthmann $680,000, Layne Flack $600,000, Tony Ma $250,000 and Martin Green $110,000

Crowd grows

It might be past midnight but the action is still hot and heavy. A dealer just exited the final table of the pot limit hold'em event and said "I have to fight people just to get through to pitch cards." Indeed the crowed has swelled around this final table with notable faces Flack and Ma reeling them in.

Ma hits the big double

Green makes it $40,000 from the small blind. Ma goes all in for a total of $100,000. Green calls. Ma shows pockets eights and Green pocket fives. Ma's timely double up is sealed when he spikes a set when an eight comes on the flop. Ma now is sitting with $200,000 and Green's stack has wilted down to only $90,000

Blinds increase

Blinds are now up to $8,000-$16,000 and play is underway again.

Pot-Limit Final Table drama

Something very weird is going on. About 15 minutes ago, while Layne Flack was at the final table a security guard approached Flack. Layne actually left the Amazon room while play was going on for about 10 minutes. After the dialogue with security personnel Flack lost two big hands and lost about $200,000. Now players are on a short break. However, Flack is back and tells Card Player things are fine. He is seated at the table and ready to rock and roll.

Chip counts

Here are chip counts: Tom Werthmann $790,000, Layne Flack $675,000, Martin Green $190,000 and Tony Ma $95,000

Werthmann Gets the Best of Flack Preflop

Tom Werthmann makes it $24,000 to go. Layne Flack comes over the top to $110,000 in chips, which makes it $55,000 more for Werthmann to call. Werthmann doesn't take long before reraising Flack another $175,000 more, and Flack takes even less time to lay it down. Werthnman takes the pot, and brings his stack to $650,000 in chips.
