Outcome
Preflop, final table, heads-up, with the blinds at 40,000 and 80,000 and a 10,000 ante, Conniff raised to 175,000 from the button, Lakhov went all-in, and Conniff called.
Analysis
Lakhov might have been too eager to close his 6:1 chip disadvantage, his stack of 20 big blinds still gave him room to close the gap without a premature hero play after just 12 hands of heads-up play. Conniff was ready with a calling hand but would need to fade live cards. The turn card was ugly for Conniff as Lakhov picked up an open ended straight draw and a host of new outs. However Conniff's Ace high held up and he eliminated Lakhov as runner up, for $573,779. Conniff had already been enjoying a breakout month after besting a huge field in one of Borgata's preliminary multi-flight events where he scored his first six-figure cash and $203,231. Conniff capitalized on this momentum by scoring his first major and WPT title, earning $973,683 with this victory.
