Outcome

Preflop, final table, three handed, with the blinds at 800,000 and 1,600,000 and a 200,000 ante, van Hoof raised to 3,600,000 from the button, Jacobson reraised to 9,200,000 from the small blind, van Hoof went all-in, and Jacobson called.

Analysis

Jacobson had amassed a 2:1 chip lead over van Hoof, who had lost substantial momentum during the previous level. van Hoof's suited Ace was promising in this aggressive three handed match, but Jacobson responded to his button raise with a three-bet. Hoping that Jacobson was using his chips to buy the pot with a resteal, van Hoof committed with his weak Ace hoping to shut down the play. Jacobson appears to have sensed his opponent struggling with the loss of momentum, as he instantly called van Hoof's shove. With that chip lead and a broadway Ace most players would have eventually found the call after deliberation, but Jacobson's snap-call indicates he was expecting the move from van Hoof. They each paired their kicker on the flop, leaving van Hoof in need of his two-outer to another Five or running wheel cards for the chop. Jacobson eliminated his talented opponent in 3rd for $3,806,402, and carried a 2.4:1 chip lead into heads up play against Felix Stephensen.
