David Baker entered the final level of the tournament with a 2:1 chip lead over John Monnette, but Monnette evened things up after winning a big pot with a full house. That hand put them both dead even at 2.6 million each. Monnette then went on to take a nearly 2:1 chip lead over Baker during the Omaha 8 round before Baker answered back and regained control in the Razz portion of the match. It wash’t long after regaining the chip lead for another time that Baker opened up his lead after winning a big Stud pot with a straight that put him over 4.4 million. With Monnette under 1 million, he brought in the 2 On the next and final hand of the night, Monnette was all in on third street with jack-high against baker’s split pair of sevens. After a relatively uneventful Level 26, the rising blinds were just too much for John Monnette on the short stack and he was eliminated shortly into Level 27. He entered the level in a distant third with just about 4 big bets, trailing well behind Adam Friedman with 1,250,000 (15 BBs) and Todd Brunson who had the chip lead with about 1.6 million ( 20 BBs). Monnette finally got the last of his chips in the middle with a wired pair of aces after calling a three-bet all-in from Adam Friedman on fifth street. John Monnette started the level with a decent chip lead over his opponents but quickly put some distance between himself and the rest of the field as Level 25 came to an end. Monnette first broke the million mark in a pot with Huu Vinh after forcing a fold on sixth street when Monnette double-paired his board. Monnette took another pot from Vinh by forcing a fold on fifth street when he paired his board, putting Vinh on the short stack with just about 4.5 big bets that hand. As Huu Vinh and Timothy Finne battled for a distant second place as the level came to an end, John Monnette would take more than seventy-five percent of the total chips in play with him into the blind increase. Monnette played very aggressive this level and forced his opponents off of many hands without a showdown, laving them both on the short stack as they each only took about 4.5 big bets with them into the next level. Eric Kesselman raiseed under-the-gun and Schneider reraised to 7,500. Kesselman moved all-in and Schneider committed the rest of his chips. Kesselman stood pat and Schneider, after contemplating for quite some time, opted to stand pat as well. Kesselman showed a 9-7-6-5-2 and Schneider flashed the 9-8, indicating he made a 9-8-X-X-X. Schneider is eliminated and Kesselman’s stack grows to 63,000. Seed Trumps Durrrr Tom Dwan raised to 2,700 from the cutoff and Huck Seed moved all-in for 7,000 from the button and was called by Dwan. Seed drew one and Dwan stood pat. Seed showed a 10-9-8-6-2 and took the pot against Dwan’s Q-J-9-4-2. Seed doubled up to 15,600 and Dwan dropped to a very healthy 56,000. Straights Aren’t Good in This Game Michael Binger raised to 2,500 and David Williams made the call and they both drew one card. After the draw, Binger fired 3,000 and was called by Williams. Binger showed a 6-5-4-3-2 and Williams took the pot with his J-10-8-5-2 and moved to 65,000 in chips.
Scott Seiver raised to 2,200 from middle position and go calls from George Lind in the small blind and Joe Cassidy from the big blind. Lind took one card, Cassidy took two, and Seiver took one. Lind then led for 5,500 and got a call from Cassidy and a fold from Seiver. Lind showed an 8-6-5-4-2 and Cassidy mucked his hand. Lind is up to 32,000, while Seiver has 40,000 and Cassidy has 48,000. Parris Holmes Wins Without a Draw Todd Bui raised to 2,300 from the cutoff and Brandon Cantu three-bet to 8,000 from the button. Parris Holmes then four-bet all in for 33,000. “You stole my move,” said Bui as he tossed his cards into the muck. Cantu’s cards followed Bui’s and Holmes stack increased to 45,000. Seiver Doubles Up John Monnette opened for 2,500 from the button and Scott Seiver moved all-in from the big blind. Monnette deliberated quite some time and drew one with his 9-6-4-2 and Seiver stood pat with his J-9-8-6-4. Monette paired his 2 and Seiver doubled to 45,000 while Monette slipped to 11,000.
