Nick Binger Wins Event #57 ($397,073)Jul 08, '11
Play ended last night after numerous changes in the chip lead, but Nick Binger started the day as the chip leader and closed it out just about an hour later. Binger extended his lead right out of the gate, getting Bach down to as low as 1.4 million before Bach made a comeback, eventually stealing the lead for himself for the first time this afternoon. David Bach completed the small blind before the flop and Nick Binger checked the big blind. The flop came Binger quickly answered back and once gain regained the lead as Level 29 came to an end, extending his lead to about 3,750,000 to Bach’s 1,500,000. Binger continued to hold momentum going into Level 30 and it wasn’t long before his aggression got the best of David Bach. In the final hand of the event, David Bach button-raised to 300,000 before the flop, Nick Binger reraised to 900,000 from the big blind, Bach four-bet shoved for about 1,500,000 and Binger called. Bach: A Bach led before the flop with a pair of kings, but Binger had a small pair, was double-suited with an ace and had several several live low cards. Binger lost one of the first showdowns of Level 27 after Bach made two pair (kings and nines) on a king-high board. Bach scooped that pot and moved up to about 3.7 million while Binger dropped down to 1.6 million. Other notables still in contention include Todd Brunson, John Hoang, Berry Johnston, Dario Minieri, Andy Black, Allen Kessler, Gavin Smith, Jeffrey Lisandro and Shawn Buchanan. Phil Ivey raised to 6,000 preflop from the button and Patrik Antonius reraised to a total of 22,000 from the big blind. Ivey instantly started stacking chips that would’ve amounted to another significant reraise, but ultimately laid his hand down. Antonius had around 230,000 after the hand. After Michael Mizrachi and Sorel Mizzi invested 3,600 each into the pot preflop, the board came K Mizrachi led out with 5,000 and Mizzi mucked his hand. “What else could I have,” Mizrachi said as he turned over A He took down the pot and improved to 115,000 while Mizzi was at 200,000. The two would tangle again in a Pot-limit Omaha hand. Pot-Limit Omaha Mizrachi And Mizzi Go Again Michael Mizrachi bet 3,000 preflop and David Benyamine made the call. Hastings took a small pot and was around 164,000 while Raymer was ailing with just over 30,000.
Scotty Nguyen raised the pot, 5,700, preflop. Action folded around to Ted Forrest in the big blind who decided to see a flop. We caught up with this hand on the second draw. Abe Mosseri folded his hand and Dario Alioto drew one card. Daniel Negreanu stood pat and led out before the final draw. Alioto made the call and drew one card. He then led out with a bet, much to the displeasure of Negreanu who made the call. Alioto turned over 8-5-4-3-2 for the 8-perfect and Negreanu could only wave his arms in disgust as he showed 8-7-5-3-2. He was down to just 70,000 after the hand while Alioto was at 60,000. The event will rotate every eight hands through eight forms of poker — limit hold’em, Omaha hi-low split-8 or better, seven card razz, seven card stud, seven card stud hi-low split 8 or better, no limit hold’em, pot limit Omaha and 2-7 triple draw lowball. The tournament will run five days through 90 minute levels. Players will start with 150,000 in tournament chips. The event’s $50,000 buy-in is the most expensive among the 57 events featured in this year’s WSOP, and the richest entry fee for a North American event.
