A gambler in Germany just had a slot machine bail him out in a huge way.
According to the Associated Press, authorities said that two police officers were out and about doing “routine checks” (that sounds kind of scary and ridiculous, but that’s besides the point here) of people hanging out at an arcade in the city of Bochum.
One of the men who they identified in the arcade had an arrest warrant for resisting police during a previous incident. As a result of that incident he was ordered to pay a 710€ ($910) fine, but he never did. The penalty awaiting him for not paying the fine was 71 days in jail.
That’s a lot of money and he apparently didn’t have it on him, until the slot machine he was playing started flashing and making funny noises as the police were prepared to arrest him.
The slot machine had just awarded him a jackpot of 1,000€.
Police took his money on the spot to settle the debt and he was not put into a prison cell.
It’s unclear how much money the slot machine took from the gambler later.
