Final table, heads up, with the blinds at 40,000-80,000 with a 5,000 ante, Lewis raised to 160,000 from the button, Jacobson called. On the flop, Jacobson checked, Lewis checked. On the turn, Jacobson bet 180,000, Lewis raised to 525,000, Jacobson reraised to 1,205,000, Lewis reraised to 2,025,000, Jacobson went all in, Lewis called.
Analysis
Since the button often automatically raises in heads-up play, Jacobson may have missed an opportunity on the flop to represent the ace as his defense indicated some strength and easily could be consistent with the ace. Since he would have probably check-called, owing to his nines, this would have been a good spot to lead out and hopefully end the hand with his leading pair. The turn was a tough card for him, as it delivered Lewis the one-outer while also improving Jacobson to two pair. Jacobson truly pushed the action on the turn, as Lewis' four-bet to 2 million might have indicated Jacobson was up against a hand that surpassed one pair, and Jacobson held the worst two-pair combination. Incidentally, a flat-call of the 2 million would have taken him to the river, where Jacobsson would have assumed he was counterfeit and probably been able to escape without further damage. Lewis was obviously very fortunate to catch the scripted turn card. Two pair versus a set is bad enough at a full ring, let alone in heads-up play where hands like ace high and second pair usually are good. Jacobsson earned €297,984 for his runner-up finish, while Lewis captured the title and €467,835.
