After extending his record for Triton Poker Series titles to 11 on Saturday, it took only three additional days for Jason Koon to further pad his all-time lead to 12.
In the closing event of the 2025 Triton Poker Montenegro series, Koon took down the $30,000 pot-limit Omaha turbo bounty for a $305,176 first-place prize and an additional $80,000 in bounty payouts.
Koon outlasted a 51-entry field and took down his record-extending 12th Triton trophy. In addition to the $385,176 in total prize money, Koon collected 420 Card Player Player of the Year points. Following an ICM chop heads-up, Koon defeated fellow standout American pro Seth Davies heads-up to secure the title, bringing Davies’ similarly successful performance in Montenegro to a close.
It was the third standout result of the festival for Davies, who won his first-ever Triton trophy in a $50,000 no-limit hold’em event in recent days. Davies then banked the biggest cash of his career, worth $4,190,000, with a second-place finish in the $200,000 Triton Invitational.
In Koon’s earlier victory in Montenegro, he further secured his position in second place on Triton’s all-time money list by adding $3.4 million as the last player standing in the $150,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em event. Koon put some additional distance between himself and the rest of the pack with his second win of the series and now sits at $33,600,784 across 62 Triton cashes. Only Bryn Kenney, with $48,218,135, has more.
Koon’s 12 Triton trophies now put him seven ahead of any other player. Four players have five Triton wins, with a tie between Kenney, Phil Ivey, Mikita Badziakouski and Danny Tang.
On the final day of action from Montenegro, two tournaments came to a close. In a record-breaking $100,000 pot-limit Omaha event, Koon’s best friend Ben Tollerene won $2,390,000 and a third career Triton trophy. And as that was going down, Koon decided to pad his own Triton resume with a win in parallel.
After Phil Ivey went out on the bubble, and Santhosh Suvarna fell in eighth, the final table was set. Koon held a comfortable lead over a stacked final table, while Davies was the shortest stack.
Seven-handed play continued through a wave of all-ins and doubles, and Koon ultimately struck the first blow. Holding top pair and a flush draw, Koon was ahead of Artur Martirosian’s wrap straight draw and middle pair and rivered a flush.
Jose ‘Nacho’ Barbero’s tournament crashed out in seventh place when his A♥A♦J♦3♣ was run down by Jonas Kronwitter. Holding A♣K♦Q♣3♥, Kronwitter flopped a club flush draw, and connected on the river.
Kronwitter picked up another bounty when his A♠K♦K♣10♣ bested Andrew Leathem’s A♦Q♦Q♣2♠. Leathem settled for fifth place.
Alas, Kronwitter’s good fortune would soon run out. He doubled up Koon, and then an anonymous player in short order. Kronwitter’s few remaining chips ended up in anonymous’ stack with a rivered straight.
Davies remained the short stack for most of the final table, but then found a pair of doubles through anonymous to even the score.
Anonymous’ tournament ended in third place after a series of tough losses. His run concluded when his A♦6♣5♥4♦ could not connect with the board to beat Davies’ J♦J♣3♣2♣.
Following their heads-up deal, Davies saw victory snatched from him by fate as Koon rivered a lucky chop. Then Koon doubled up when his Q♥Q♦J♦2♠ beat Davies’ A♣Q♣8♦6♥.
After taking over the lead, Koon would not relinquish it again. He put Davies at risk, with Koon’s A♦7♦6♦5♠ behind Davies’ A♠J♠10♥9♦. According to the Card Player Omaha odds calculator, Davies was a 61.26% favorite pre-flop, but that changed quickly.
An 8♦5♥2♦ flop swung Koon into a massively favored position, with an 84.76% chance to win. The 7♥ turn gave Davies outs to a straight, but the K♦ gave Koon the nut flush and the victory.
After a summer hiatus, Triton Poker Series action returns to Jeju with a series running from September 3-23.
