With the blinds at 3,000 and 6,000 and a 1,000 ante, Mercier raised to 12,000 from the button, Jaka reraised to 31,000 from the small blind, and Mercier called. On the flop Jaka bet 39,000, Mercier raised to 93,000, Jaka reraised to 205,000, Mercier went all in, and Jaka called.

Jaka was able to quickly rebound from an earlier setback, now enjoying a deep stack of over 100 big blinds. He tried to foil a potential steal play from Mercier on the button, but Mercier proceeded in position with his pocket pair. Jaka flopped a promising combination draw with both flush and open ended straight potential, and he immediately led out with his semibluff. Mercier built a pot while protecting his hand with a raise, but Jaka was encouraged by his equity in the hand and pushed back. Mercier quickly set him all-in, Jaka had made his bed and pursued his draws. Mercier had a monster sweat, but he had the benefit of knowing if he lost the hand he would still have plenty of chips to work with. Both the turn and river were red, but Jaka missed everything as Mercier faded the draws for a massive pot. Mercier was on a rush and seemed destined for the final table.
