With the blinds at 25,000 and 50,000 and a 5,000 ante, Esfandiari raised to 115,000 from under the gun, Galfond called in the big blind. On the Flop, Galfond checked, Esfandiari bet 150,000, Galfond raised to 330,000, Esfandiari went all-in, Galfond called and was all-in.

Galfond defended his big blind with his attractive suited Ace, and flopped middle pair with the nut flush draw. He anticipated an automatic continuation bet from Esfandiari, so it was a nice spot for this well executed check-raise. Unfortunately Esfandiari wasn’t going away with his top pair, especially with his 4.6:1 chip advantage over Galfond. He promptly put his talented opponent all-in. Galfond held plenty of equity with his combo-draw, and had already invested 445,000 in the hand. He quickly called the remainder of his stack, and it was essentially a flip at this stage for Galfond’s tournament life. Esfandiari ran quite well throughout the tournament and held off the Aces, Sevens, and Spades to secure the knockout.
