David Paredes Doubles Through Curt Kohlberg
Oct 27, '10
Curt Kohlberg opened for a raise to 18,000 from under the gun and was called by David Adkison. The action folded around to David Paredes in the big blind and he reraised to 56,000.
Kohlberg then made it 256,000, letting Adkison out of the hand. Here’s where it got complicated. Paredes announced call, clearly under the impression that he was all in. Kohlberg must have thought so as well, because he turned his hand over, revealing A K .
Paredes then showed 9 9 before the dealer stopped action, explaining that Paredes still had 36,000 in chips behind. The floor was called over and they ruled that since both players intended to be all in preflop, there action would stand and no penalties would be given out.
The flop came down A 5 4 and Paredes immediately soured, bemoaning his luck since joining table 2. Kohlberg remains silent, but has to get up from the table when the 9 hit the turn. For some reason, Paredes doesn’t cheer up much after hitting his card and begins to tell the table that the card was “justice” for all the misfortune he’s had today.
The inconsequential river is the 5 and Paredes continues to talk as he collects his chips. During his rant, he accuses Kohlberg of angle shooting, purposely turning over his cards to get information.
Of course, this doesn’t make any sense since both players were simply confused about the amount of the bet in front of them. Immediately, the rest of the table, including Steve Zolotow and John Patgorski come to Kohlberg’s defense and explain that it was a simple misunderstanding. Paredes won’t have it though and a few awkward minutes follow as Paredes builds his chips.
Paredes now has about 680,000, while Kohlberg is down to 450,000.

Rosen Slows Nielsen Down with a River Bet
On a board of J 7 5 4 4 , Jamie Rosen made a bet of 18,500 into an already large pot. Thomas Nielsen muttered to himself for a moment before electing to call. Nielsen questioned Rosen after the hand about whether or not he would have called if he had pushed all in over the top of Rosen’s river bet. Rosen maintained that he would not have called, instead opting to protect his remaining 130,000 in chips.

One Match Remains
Jun 20, '07
The fourth round of heads up play is still going on, with only one heads up match in play. Scotty Nguyen and Mark Muchnik are at a stand still and have gotten into the habit of trading blinds. Muchnik has a slight chip advantage over Nguyen, who has been frustrated for much of the round over how card dead he is. Nguyen has repeatedly folded to any raise and when doing so angrily folds his cards. "I've only gotten one pair this whole time. Pocket nines." said Nguyen.
Either Muchnik or Nguyen will complete the 16 player bracket and there is one more round scheduled for tonight. Eight more heads up matches will begin at 10 p.m. and when the dust settles there will be only eight players left in the field. The final eight match ups are as follows:
Jason Glass vs. Keith Block
Steve Sarrafzadeh vs. Thomas Wahlroos
Jared Davis vs. Curt Kohlberg
Steve Song vs. Scotty Nguyen/Mark Muchnik
Vanessa Selbst vs. Paul Wasicka
Shannon Shorr vs. Carmel Petresco
Daniel Schrieber vs. Jonah Rogers
Toto Leonidas vs. Michael Pickett
