Zac Fellows came into the final day of event No. 21 ($3,000 H.O.R.S.E.) at the World Series of Poker with the chip lead at 1 p.m. on June 11. Twelve hours later, he would be the owner of a gold bracelet and $311,899. The final day began with 21 players in all after a grueling play-down stretch on day 2 failed to reach the final table of eight. Talented players such as Jared Okun (21st), Ylon Schwartz (18th), David Baker (17th), Chau Giang (16th), and Gavin Smith (10th) fell early and missed the final eight.

Fellows then overcame a final table that included accomplished mixed-game professionals James Van Alstyne, Chris Amaral, and Matt Hawrilenko to claim his prize. The toughest battle came at the end for Fellows, where he fought Van Alstyne for an hour-and-a-half during the wee hours of June 12. Fellows and Van Alstyne were even in chips when the final match began, and at one point Fellows grew his edge to a 7-1 chip lead. Van Alstyne showed some resiliency and fought back, but he was never able to grow his stack to more than 1.2 million, allowing Fellows to eventually shut the door.

Here are the final results:

1. Zac Fellows – $311,899
2. James Van Alstyne – $192,866
3. Tim Finne – $126,199
4. Michele Limongi – $87,264
5. Chris Amaral – $63,536
6. Martin Eikeng – $48,590
