A Lake Tahoe casino that’s a fixture on the World Series of Poker Circuit is receiving a major rebranding.
Caesars Entertainment is planning a $160 million renovation of Harveys Lake Tahoe and will rebrand the casino as Caesars Republic.
This becomes the second casino to take on the new “Republic” tag after a property in Scottsdale, Arizona, was given the name last year. Major renovations on the Lake Tahoe property began last year and will continue in the coming months.
“This transformation honors the storied history of Harveys while introducing modern amenities and elevated experiences that will redefine luxury in Lake Tahoe,” Harrah’s and Caesars Republic Lake Tahoe Senior Vice President Karie Hall said. “We look forward to welcoming guests to a resort that blends the best of our past with an exciting vision for the future.”
Caesars Republic Brings Roman Flair, Poker Upgrades To Lake Tahoe
The property, which opened in 1944 as a family-owned and operated casino, will see major renovations to the hotel lobby, casino floor, and rooms and suites. That includes new carpet, lighting, tables, chairs and digital displays.
The Mountain and Tahoe towers will be renamed Remus and Romulus to better fit the new Roman theme. The mythological figures are twin brothers who are said to have co-founded the city of Rome, which later became the center of an empire that lasted almost 500 years.
Plans also call for new slot machines and a high-limit gaming room, along with a new coffee shop and bar. Card players will be pleased to see that a new WSOP poker room is also in the works.
The property transformation will continue throughout 2026, with a completely reimagined casino unveiled this summer. A second phase will begin in the fall, with the entire project expected to be complete by next summer.
“Lake Tahoe is a stunning destination, and we’re elated to bring a new world-class resort worthy of its allure to the lakefront,” Caesars Entertainment President and COO Anthony Carano said. He added that the changes will bring “a new era of luxury in the region.”
Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, located across the street and connected to Caesars Republic via an underground connector, is also undergoing improvements and adding a new restaurant.
Harveys first began running WSOP Circuit events in 2007 after Harrah’s hosted the series for several years. The latest edition was held in October, with Evan Sandberg winning the $1,700 main event for $133,837.
“It feels quite amazing, especially because Lake Tahoe is probably my favorite place to travel for poker, which I can only do once a year,” he said after the win. “I live in Vegas and I go to Thunder Valley sometimes, but this is the number one spot I’d like to win at, so it makes it extra special. I always enjoy a challenge. It just motivates me to really play my best.”
