For the second time in his career, Erick Lindgren has won a satellite into a $1,000,000 buy-in poker event. Back in 2014 he secured one of two seats into the Big One For One Drop tournament at the World Series of Poker.
More than a decade later, the two-time bracelet winner has once again turned a $25,000 buy-in satellite entry into a seven-figure seat. This time around, though, Lindgren’s victory will see the longtime poker pro lock up a spot and the buy-in for Hustler Casino Live’s Million Dollar Game, which kicks off the first of several days of nosebleed-stakes cash game action on Monday, April 28.
The 48-year-old has nearly $10.5 million in recorded tournament earnings to his name, and was often a participant of the biggest televised tournaments and cash games of the poker boom era. Now, he is set to play $500-$1,000 blinds with a $2,000 big blind ante game just a day after his satellite win.
“It’s weird. Sometimes you get a feeling, and I kinda felt like I was going to win this before I got here. Maybe that shows how the mental state matters,” Lindgren said after closing out the victory. “I’m mentally prepared to play tomorrow. I just want to get in there and battle. This is every gambler’s dream.”
Lindgren locked up his spot as the last player standing from a field of 51 satellite entries. The $1,275,000 in total prize money was paid out among just the top four finishers, with a massive $850,000 gap between first and second place.
Plenty of notables took part in the event, including Hustler Casino Live participants like Ethan ‘Rampage’ Yau, Arden Cho, Wesley Fei, Mikki Mase, and Alexandra Botez. As is standard with the popular stream, many players were only referenced by a chosen nickname or first name.
The $50,000 bubble burst when ‘Dr. P’ got the last of his micro stack in from the small blind with 8-3. ‘Britney’ put him at risk with pocket nines and held to narrow the field to four. She went on to finish fourth, while ‘Ala’ placed third for $75,000. That left a heads-up match for the $1,000,000 top prize, with Lindgren holding roughly a 5:1 chip advantage over ‘Coach Collins.’
