Just under 50 players cashed in big last week as part of a seven-figure bad beat jackpot at the Casino du Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada.
The hand saw CAD $2.5 million ($1.8 million US) paid out to 46 players, including more than CAD $1 million ($725,000 US) to the “loser.” The winner pocketed CAD $502,711 ($362,555 US).
The massive sum made it the second-largest bad-beat jackpot ever paid out.
A bad beat jackpot is triggered when a premium hand is beaten by an even better hand. Properties take a dollar or two from each cash game hand to build the prize pool. The jackpot usually awards the most to the loser and a sizable amount to the winner, with the other players at the table also receiving a portion divided among them.
Some properties may also divide a share among all cash game players at the property. This was the case at Casino du Lac-Leamy.
As a result, 46 players collected some cash. The other six players at the table each received approximately CAD $84,000 ($60,580), and the other 38 players in the room each received approximately CAD $13,000 ($9,375 US).
The hand was played in a $1-$3 no-limit hold ’em game that saw the flop, turn, and river produce the 9K

for a straight flush while the loser held 10

for quads.
The casino paid 40% of the jackpot to the player with the losing hand and 20% to the winner. Another 20% was paid to the other players at the table, and the last 20% went to other cash game players in the room.
The largest jackpot also came in Canada in 2023 at the Playground Poker Club in Quebec. The hand also saw quad 10s beaten by a straight flush and paid out CAD $2.6 million (almost $1.9 million US).
In February, the Lodge Card Club paid out Texas’s largest bad beat jackpot. The table split $290,000.
